A drop that much....you will be lucky
My 1.9dci renault megane is £780 for a year with 3 years experience, 0ncb and 0 points and I'm the same age, I doubt you will get 50% off
hell, putting it into confused.com mine came out as if I had 3 years ncb and previous experience...£620, so 3 years ncb and £160 better off.... mind the 21 year old bit may make a difference
depending on insurer there are a few things you can do to get your quote down.
Voluntary excess - a high excess can make quite a difference. if getting a quote online try different permutations.
admiral, bell, elephant etc all seem to drop the quote if you tick the box saying you have regular access to another car. I get to drive my parent's cars when I go home every christmas and it doesn't get much more regular than that...
add someone with much lower risk onto your policy as a named driver (your mum if she has a clean licence). this can make quite a considerable difference (dropped my quote from 1300 - 850ish). If you are the only driver and you are high risk they are insuring the car at 100% your risk. If you add a lower risk driver they will be driving for some of the time so the total risk will be lower. The only problem is it is difficult to say no when your mum wants to take your nice shiny sports car out for a spin...
I got a group 15 car down to £600 a year fully comp aged 21 with no NCB. It just cost me another £300 in phone bills ringing around to get it to that!
What car was that though?? Insurance companies with the quotes i've done seem to not care as much about age if the silly car in question is fairly old eg early 90's and has high millage for example.
