    car battery types

My mum's 1.9D Clio needs a new battery, the current one died over about the course of a week; I only refilled it with de-ionised water a couple of months ago so I assume that it really is dead now. Never mind, it's been in the car since she got it (I forget exactly when that was, but it was at least three, probably four years ago).

Anyway I had a look at the current one it and it claims to be a type 067 battery. From a bit of googling it seems that a type 096 is a heavy duty version of that battery, and there are various ebay sellers offering those for about £60 delivered- a local motor factor wanted £72.50 for an 067, and from memory Halfords wanted £90 for their recommended battery last time I checked, so that seems an attractive price.

The only thing that's worrying me is that the battery has funny terminals that are unlike any I've seen before- they're a screw thread, and the car's battery leads have a screw cap which...er...screws onto them, obviously. It's a good system to be fair, easy to attach and remove and makes for a secure connection, but if I order an 096 battery and it turns up with conventional 'post' type terminals I'm going to be a bit stuffed.

So anyone know if battery types are totally standard? Do all 067/096 type batteries have screw teminals?

The screw terminals come off, both batteries have normal post terminals.

phone the factors back and say you can get one for £60 and will they give you trade to price match as you would rather shop a bit more local, otherwise use yell.com to find a battery place near by m8

at least you can be sure you walk out the door with the right battery then.

its worth getting the Hd version for older cars as they take longer to crank in the bad weather.
