Then de-cat/bypass aren't options. Get a new cat from a breaker. In fact, it's probably a good idea to make friends while you're there

Re: 306 gti-6 de -cat or bypass help ??

You'll be running the car in such a state as that should you be stopped by the 5-0 they can deem the car unroadworthy there and then. It's not uncommon to see the DVLA and VOSA at the side of the road checking hot hatches and modded cars for these things. As you've already mentioned it will also fail the MOT. Any car post J reg/1992 needs a cat to pass the MOT easily.

In terms of running, you'll lose a little bit of mid range punch, but probably gain a bit at the top end. It shouldn't make a huge amount of difference to your running costs, but obviously the cars map won't be set up so as to get the best from the bypass. It will also be significantly more noisy.

Hi Parkeey, Here's my opinion, You could get a de-cat pipe(which i had, and had no trouble from the 5-0) but then come mot time your gonna need to refit a cat, and if you don't own one you'll need to buy one, so in the long run it's gonna cost you more, do your bit for the environment and stick a new cat on it. To be honest you prob wouldn't notice the difference buddy. Hopes this helps you, Good Luck.

I've seen this place recommended in the past..

    http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/

    £65+VAT for a ceramic, £191+VAT for a steel one.

OK, here's the fact. The cat fell apart inside the cat casing. Once it came loose, it began to move around, and the edges of the "honeycombe" centre started to spit out of the back into your exhaust. Eventually the "honeycombe" centre of the cat was small enough to spin around, like a cricket ball inside, and it turned sideways, so that the honeycome was not "end on" but sideways on and it blocked part or all of the exhaust pipe.

Hitting it with a hammer loosened it and made that problem go away for a while.

Lets get this all into context. You have one of THE finest cars ever made. It has an incredible chassis, with loads of power, a nie gearbox and it deserves to be both niely maintained AND as safe as houses.

If you are seriously looking at cutting corners on the CAT, then dare I ask what else you have cut corners on? In costs terms I mean?

A CAT is a part of that car, and it should have one UNLESSS you are simply using it off-road for motorsport. It should have a proper exahust system, because otherwise you might as well have a cheaer lower specced car.

i hate to say it but you'll only know the cats gone by getting the emmissions tested, at an MOT centre or a main dealer.

What one needs to do, is take it off, stick a broom handle down it and THEN hit with a hammer. Should rid you of that horrid bung for good
