I love the Octavia 4x4 suggestion. Did VW do a Golf MkIV estate with 4x4 too?
Not particularily exciting but fit the surroundings well.

If they exist how about an older non-sport A3 or A4? The sports pack would reduce the ground clearance too much for my liking.

My current favourite though - if you can cope with the size - is an original A6 2.5TDi All-road

    EDIT:
    Impreza R (05-07)
    157bhp/8.5s/31mpg/IG14

Sounds good to me - didn't know it existed *sheepishly admits* - fingers crossed more fun than most but never read/seen/ridden/driven one enough to know.
I agree with you about A6 2.5TDi All-road, its my favourite too

Well, Vimeous, sorry for the inconvenience but this is only way to make contact with you

I'm BG42 forum member and I have few qustions for you

    Ah ha!
Now that's what I call a full-on thread hijack Sorry rob!

0tt0 send me a pm with your questions and I'll be happy to help as best I can

Back on-topic I have another slightly left-hand drive suggestion - a 5-Series x, the 4x4 vn they sold in europe. Quite a few were imported and could be ideal

Re: Subaru impreza 2.0R sport any good?

Well my Civic is 167bhp and the Celica is 169bhp. That's a little difference and they're not what I would describe as slow.

Of course you won't really know until you try it

Re: Subaru impreza 2.0R sport any good?

It's very rare I'd not recommend a Honda TBH. Mines not a Type-R, it's an older VTi but as we produce for Honda I've driven many of their recent cars.

As Chris says. You should also be looking for post-facelift which is easy to identifiy as it has projector headlights with black surrounds. There was also a special edition with aircon which might dip into your price range.

The question I would have though is:

Now you've read lots of suggestions and maybe looked at a wider variety of cars has you requirement altered?

I ask because based upon your original thoughts I'm not sure a Type-R would be my first choice. Once it's an option you enter a whole new ball-game

I think my requirement has altered I am less bothered about 4wd and want something fast grippy reliable and a little bit practicle. I would not consider estate cars I just dont like them.
My honda civic is 11 years old and touch wood never given me any trouble but very very very slow. Thats why I though about the type-r. I hear that celica are good cars & the gt version is very nice. I would defo consider that but I personally don't like the look of it but I shouldn't judge a book by its cover I guess.
