    Fiat Coupe?

I was tempted when I saw this in a dealer just down the road from me for £1595:

    http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...cleRegLetter=P

At £1295 I'm well tempted to stick it on me credit card. Insurance is £500 mind. They reckon it has FSH but I daresay I'd better budget for a cambelt change.

    Thoughts?

Lot of car for the money, a friend had one and it was silly quick. I recall it being a bit of a money pit though, but since he worked for GSF and didn't mind getting his hands oily it wasn't so much of an issue.

    Re: Fiat Coupe?

It's only had 2 owners from new!!! And doesn't seem expensive - at auction you would be likely to pay close to £1000 for it. Just make sure you check the service history - but going by the ownership record i'd like to think it has been well cared for. GL

    Re: Fiat Coupe?

Someone I used to work with had one. Check the electrics!!!!!!

He loved it, but in the end got rid as it caused him no end of grief.

Budget and get the cambelt done, then I reckon it'll be reasonably trouble free for a fiat.

    Re: Fiat Coupe?

Excellent car, I was sooo tempted by one last year but wanted something newer so bottled it at the last minute.

The owners club you want is FCCUK - Fiat Coupe Club UK it has all the manuals, how-to's etc and the forum has been going since the Coupe was released in early 90's - fantastic resource for any question.

For servicing, check out PowerItalia in Basildon if you can get to it. These guys started out as PowerFiat specialising in Coupe's but have since broadened to all Fiats and Alfas - Fiat owners travel well in excess of 100 miles for a service/cambelt there - no-one knows the 20vt engine better or will fix it for better value for money.

    Go for it

    Re: Fiat Coupe?

they go well for a FWD cam belt change is the pricey bit - main dealers will ream you for it , find a good independant garage. nice bunch of guys on their owners club too.

    Re: Fiat Coupe?

Went and had a look. No dents, a couple of little scratches as you'd expect on a 12 year old car. Driver's seat a bit worn but the rest of the interior's nice. Disappointingly there's only a radio cassette inside, which seems a bit cheap. Wheels fairly well kerbed. There's a bit of overspray on the front bumper. 4-5mm tread on Pirelli P-Zero Asymmetricos.

I dunno, scrappy 6-speeders don't seem to be much more. This one's also very near me:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=180375044830

....I don't like the sound of the aircon not working though, that'd be a bit unpleasant on a hot day.

Yes, hence the point of the post dopey! I was quite interested at £1595, at £1295 I'm really interested.

They've had it since 23rd June by the date on the photo. As a dealer, what's your guess at the lowest they'd accept for instant cash?

I'm still in two minds about whether to do it since I'd really rather clear my overdraft rather than cane it further, but I'd really like to own a 150mph car with leather seats and aircon at some point. My original fantasy car that I was going to buy when its falling price matched my increasing income was a BMW 740i- but I figure the Fiat is going to be just as fast, 50% more fuel efficient, a lot easier to park (which matters both where I live and where I park for work), with about half the overall running costs.

.....Although annoyingly, I was quoted £450 to insure a 750i when I was about 26 with 4 years no claims. I'm now 30 with 7 years and they want £500 for the Fiat. Maybe it's because I didn't have my mum as a named driver....

    Two things.

    1) you just gave everyone your postcode in that link.

    2) They are lovely cars, my ex's dad had one and it was great however it cost him a fortune in running costs, things were forever going wrong with it.

I have very little worth stealing, and I hope that, since I made a conscious decision not to get into personal slanging matches on here, nobody wants to stalk or harm me any more. Anyway, there are 50 houses in my postcode.....

Well it'd be a weekend car really, I'd only drive it to work when my mum wanted her car back. And TBH if silly things like the electric windows packed up, I'd just fix it myself or live with it.

iirc things like the cambelt went frequently, throttle cable went which was not a stock item and had to be made specially (this cable could have been confused in my brain, I did split from the girl in question some time ago). It was a money pit although they are very nice cars.

His car had had the pininfarina treatment though, whether this is standard or not I'm not sure.

    Re: Fiat Coupe?

The interior is Pininfarina and is lovely, albeit that the dash is body coloured, so muted metallics = win, bright yellow = ! (Pininfarina also built the car as I understand it).

The body was styled by Chris Bangle, and TBH I was never that much of a fan, though I ran it past the wife and she approved. But I'll be on the inside driving, so who cares what the outside looks like?
