Track car advice required*

Hey Guys,

Kinda new to the forum but noticed the clued up people on here so thought it would be a good idea to ask for some advice.

Basically I currently own a renault clio 1.4 which has 9k miles however I have a mad passion for cars and would love to learn to play around with a track car. The problem I am having is the insurance, Im currently 19 with 2 years no claims, Passplus etc. But on like a pug 205 1.6 its looking like £1.8k-2k which for a mess around car is stupid. Its a similar story with a 1.6 fiesta. I was looking at stripping weight and tinkering around with it and learn some stuff in my spare time.

Anybody got any advice in relation to insurance and budget? I do not own a van or trailer either so that is not an option.

If it's gonna be a track car and your second car. Then you can just phone your insurance company up and get insurance for the days your driving it. A day at a time as it were.

You may well find your paying alot no matter what car you buy though at your age. Not alot you can do.

apart from telling you to get a 1.6 EG civic i cant really help, as andy says they are going to bum you on the insurance for whatever you get that has a bit of poke.

MX5! Get an old 1.8, they are FANTASTIC as track cars.

Ive put my dad on and the least I can get is £1300 for a '92 fiesta, my mum has speeding parts to her licence so she makes it go up lawl.

It sucks even when I have 2 years no claims and pass plus. Insurance is a joke.

Have you tried a classic car insurance policy? I saved a packet on my 106 Rallye when it became 15 years old, went from £270 TPFT, 8000 miles a year, to £190 Fully Comp, unlimited mileage.

Obviously you'll need a track car that's 15+ years old, but there are loads of excellent cars from the 80s and 90s, Pug 205 is an obvious one (I'd go for an XS over a GTi), Pug 106 XSi, Citroen AX GT/GTi, MX5 obviously....plenty of fun and cheap little cars.
