V Power is Shells higher octane product. However, it won't make the slightest difference if the vehicle isn't mapped to use it.

I always buy BP, just because the Shell on the way home from work is next to a burger king, and if i stop for petrol, i'll end up with an XL Bacon double chese. The bp is next to subway, so less likely to clog my heart.

    Clever

My thoughts are that shell can't claim the factual information they do (extra litre per 50l tank saved) if they hadn't done the proof - they'd be hauled up in no time otherwise. For the diesel they're claiming 3% over long term and going on about the injector cleaning properties (in the business section):

    And rust inhibitor:

(and also the anti-foaming properties, not that that's particular important to car drivers).

The consumer site talks about the fuel itself igniting and burning more efficiently, which could be a simple cetane improvement.

Not sure about the unleaded one going on about lubricating though - lead replacement compound?

My only concern with it is, with BP getting such a bad time in the press recently, wouldn't this be a great time for one of its rivals to launch a new more efficient fuel..

I doubt BP or Shell actually make all that much money from petrol sales to the end user.

Erm, that rust inhibitor, I presume that works if you use it on an engine from new, or is that image of two components of the same age with the same life and then one uses normal fuel and the other this new fuelsave stuff? If so where do all of those rust chunks end up?

thought it was around the 2p a litre mark, which adds up quite a bit i'd imagine

Yes, engine from new. It's an inhibitor.

Unless, like my Alfa, the existing map is usually tamed by the knock sensor with standard unleaded and using V power allows the ECU to wind the ignition further forward.

My car used to love V power, then they changed the mix and it hated it so I stopped buying the stuff. Just bought a tank of V power for the first time in ages, seems OK so far. Might try forcing the ECU to do a re-learn for the fuel, if I can be bothered
