    Shell fuelsave

Just got a marketing email about this:

    http://www.shell.co.uk/home/content/...uels/fuelsave/

Basically Shell are replacing their standard unleaded and diesel fuels with fuelsave versions now. They reckon it gives an extra 2% mileage which I'll take, thank you very much

The don't say much about the tech, but it sounds pretty much like they just add similar cleaning additives to it as they do with their V-Power diesel range (or I do with my redex )

    Re: Shell fuelsave

Just to pick up on the redex thing bud, you know that's more an injection cleaner than a fuel additive?

I hate the stuff and would suggest using Millers or similar instead

Yes, that's the point. Like V-Power and this fuelsave - there's no more energy in the fuel, it's cleaning your engine/injectors, which is what gives you the increased economy.

More then likely be a slightly higher octane rating, higher rating = cleaner burn, a cleaner burn means marginally more power and cleaner emissions.

I find the opposite to be honest - in most places I've lived they've been at least equal to the cheapest, and are often a bit cheaper still.

    Re: Shell fuelsave

Added lubricants to the petrol eh? But I don't want to drive a 2 stroke

Their V-power used to be fantastic in my car, then they changed the mix and it became awful. I hope they don't mess up their normal unleaded as Shell is the cheapest garage around here.

    Re: Shell fuelsave

However, having been to the website...

It lubricates where your normal engine oils can't easily reach.
Ok, so it lubricates, from back to front.
Filler neck, tank, pump, filter, lines, pressure regulator, rail, injectors, inlet manifold, combustion chamber.
So yes, thats where engine oil cant usually reach, unless you have some sort of ring issue (ooh eer) or in the case of forced induction issues with your turbo.
Question is, does all of the stuff they add burn off, if it doesnt what effect does it have on your cat?

which helps the engine turn more freely and allows more energy to drive the wheels.
Not quite sure how fuel, having taken the route above can help reduce friction within the actual engine itself, I would of thought that was more an oil realted thing, unless again, you ahve other issues with your engine. Perhaps this new fuel is designed to get past the piston rings and mix with the engine oil and reduce friction within the engine that way...

All sounds a bit fishy to me..

How about its really a case of them getting rid of some sort of waste product by putting it in the fuel and mixing in some adative or other to bring the RON/MON/AKI rating back up to that or normal fuels.

Pretty much exactly what I thought Trig. They don't seem to be too forthcoming with an actual scientific explanation of how it works and what it's supposed to be doing either.

    Gimmick

However, it won't stop me from buying Shell exclusively
