    Exclamation Car insurance rant again.

Yes, I now car insurance prices have gone up, but by 100% (ish) ??????????????

My last year's price :£324 inc interest for monthly payments. (I only had 2 yrs NCB).

This years, with the same company, like for like terms, inc interest for monthly payments : £637 !!!!!

This was Churchill, who even after 20 minutes on the phone couldn't reduce it, so I went with KwikFit at £450 (inc etc, but with £45 quid cashback via good old Quidco).

    Flippin' 'eck !
    Rant over.
    Cheers, David

Aye I know. Mines quite expensive how it is. Paid £1400with direct line last year then this year for renewal they wanted £1800! Had a look around and most places wanted about £1500 then finally found somewhere for a grand

How is that possible with only 2 years NCB? What were/are you insuring? :| My dad has 9 years NCB on a Honda Jazz and pays £230.

I have 2 years NCB and insurers still want £900 off me.

It's like a lottery... 2008 bought my car, £350 insurance
2009 renewal came - £750 !!! Phoned up they had no idea why it was so much... shopped around best I got it for - £500
    2010 Renewal came £650 !! shopped around... £370 WTF !

You were with Churchill though and I wouldn't touch them if they wanted £5 for the year.

    Re: Car insurance rant again.

I think they just hope people are lazy and will just pay the asked price for renewal. A few years ago I was with Direct line and it went up to about £390 so I changed to someone else, The following year Direct line offered to insure it for £250 so I've been with them for the last couple of years but, I just got the Renewal notice and it is up to £363.50 so will be shopping around again. Hastings are quoting £284 but, without the protected no claims discount.

I'm not sure if it is worth having the protected no claims TBH as regardless of not being to blame the policies seem to go if someone crashes into you anyway.

    Re: Car insurance rant again.

Looking at insuring my car. Looked about 5 months ago but couldn't really justify doing so then (~£2000 at the time). Started looking again now, has jumped to £4000. (This isn't on an exotic car, Skoda Fabia. Know I'm young and all but still...if I'm young how do I afford that?)

It annoys me that it's a legal requirement and creates these artificial prices. They wonder why young drivers drive without insurance, when it's cheaper for me to have a crash, buy a new car, pay off the other driver and any court fees, plus probably have money left over.

I'm still looking and dare say I can get it cheaper but still...

I'm more annoyed at the fact when I looked before DirectLine were one of the better insurers price wise, looking again now they won't insure me! There's a few that've changed their policy so there's about half the market that is refusing to now.

If you think you can afford to payoff people involved in accidents, you might want to consider that over £20million was paid out by one car insurance company for a single crash, another Ive seen mentioned was £30million.

    How about changing your car?

Something very sensible and family oriented should do it, how about a diesel Mondeo (not the 220)? Even though it is a larger car it may well be cheaper as insurance companies will see it as a lower risk.

Have you been phoning places or just getting quotes online? You should speak to them and ask if they are able to say why the quotes are so high. There are many factors which will effect your insurance premium. perhaps they can suggest things to reduce that premium.

Yeah, it's a possibility. As you mention I've not phoned places yet, only briefly looked to get an idea on if it's changed at all as my focus currently is on getting a job. I'll bear that in mind.

Though I've only ever seen elderly driving Skoda's, I can't imagine them having a high risk or boy-racer image

    Re: Car insurance rant again.

Every year we (the family) all run it through confused.com (or whoever takes your fancy). The difference it makes is staggering.

My dad had his renewal coming up through Budget. They quoted him around £150 more than the last year. We ran it through confused.com and then he had another letter a few days later, again from Budget matching the cheapest price on there. This was about £30 cheaper than the year before!

    Well worth shopping about
