www.parkers.co.uk / www.whatcar.com Read the owners reviews on both sites to get an idea.

I think Ford played it safe with the Styling of the Mk2 Focus. The Mk1 looked great for it's time, looked after examples still look ok today.

    Good cars.

The 1.8 TDCi engine is the one to go for. Leaps and bounds ahead of the older TDDI units that were fitted.

    Re: Focus Diesel's

To be fair, if you go down that route you wouldnt buy any 'modern' diesel. (common rail onwards)
Otherwise it would always be a case of, oh but the fuel pumps can be known to fail. Uh oh, the DMF's can go wrong on higher mileage examples. Oh no the injectors have gone and are lots to replace etc.

My mum has one of these and I've driven it a few times. Nice car overall, easy to drive, comfortable, decent amount of power (although turbo lag is very much noticeable, but maybe just because I'm not used to it).

A couple of minor annoyances for me at least, the clutch is super light, and feels like it's made out of a sponge (although, again I'm coming from a car with a fairly heavy clutch, so maybe just because I'm not used to it), and the seat position is much higher than I'm used to, you don't sit down into the seat, more climb up into it.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

    Re: Focus Diesel's

Mmost cars do have a few weak points, but it can be difficult to physically check a fuel pump to see how much life is left in it. Unless it is really on its last legs and whining away so much so that you can hear it, or whilst under full load there is a noticeable problem in the power delivery. Checking it could involve removing a fair proportion of the boot, in order to gain access to the fuel tank! (Note I actually don't know specifically where the tank is located on a focus, I am just assuming!)

How many said cars with that particular pump were sold, and how many failed? I would bet whilst it maybe a fair few, as an overall percentage its minimal.

    Re: Focus Diesel's

The one am looking at is the a

2002 FORD FOCUS 1.8 TDCi Zetec 5dr Diesel Hatchback with 96k on the clock, i need to ask the seller a few more questions about it before i go further but it's the best example i found with less then 100k on the clock.

Now the question is, is this a Mk1 or Mk2, acording to wiki the Mk2 did not come in till 04 yet this is a 1.8 TDCi Zetec which is supose to be a Mk2 ?

    Should be well under £3k
Seen a fair few myself (toying with the idea of getting a BMW as my next car when my current one is B.E.R.) and for £3k you can get a TDCi with 45k on the clock about that age
