It's been an excellent year. 2008 was a good championship but with generally poor races. 2010 has had a good mix of title battle and excellent races (Montreal was
epic). From a championship perspective, it was a bit of a dull finale (decent action elsewhere), but we've been spoiled a few times this year.
As for the title, the fastest driver won out, but all 4 real contenders had good positives and weaknesses.
- Vettel was super quick and unlucky with unreliability, but he made some critical errors too.
- Alonso had the slowest car of all the contenders (much slower for most of the season), some bad luck early in the season, but also had Hockenheim (well his team did) - had he won by less than 8 points, it would have tainted the title for many.
- Webber had the consistency up until Korea, but also had the worst first lap possible in the season and was seldom faster than his teammate.
- Hamilton made too many silly mistakes in races, but held in there.
Had either Vettel or Alonso won, it would have been well deserved, but Webber and Hamilton lost it towards the end of the year. If I was choosing I'd have liked Webber to have won it as he had to get into F1 on his own with a lot of sacrifices, unlike Vettel and Hamilton, and he's a good, honest guy. Still, at least Vettel is hard to dislike and seems a genuinely fun bloke when he's not in a sulk.
Examples?
Today was just frustration. It's no different from Hamilton complaining over the radio about pit calls. Sometimes you just let your frustration get the better of you in the heat of the moment.
He'd calmed down a lot by the time the media interviews came around and was gracious in defeat.
To be fair, while they are a Red Bull junior team, Ferrari supply the engines, and they gave Ferrari zero help, so they weren't bending over
completely. That'll make for an interesting next meeting between team and engine supplier.
