I take it that it isn't an AWD or 4WD and is a bog standard beemer?
If so it reinforces my opinion of the average intelligence of british drivers.

He has chains on his car when the roads are almost completely clear, certainly not the several inches of packed snow which would be required for the chains to be helpful....
to be honest, after crashing my BMW... I'd suggest that theyre probably a fair bit of use on the front, as thats what gave up first on me causing me to crash.... the front end started sliding whilst the back end was still pushing the car forward...
although i do agree they they should be on the rear to get propulsion... surely you'd be better off with thema ll round?

ISTR someone did a survey of BMW 1 series owners about their cars, and the majority said they are FWD.
(edit to add: yes I do mean owners, not just general public).
Alternate theory is they fitted chains all round and then blasted up the road in them. Now you can only see the surviving ones
