Installing a new car audio unit

At the moment I have a peugeot 206 automatic, which has a radio/cd/sound controller on the steering wheel. I had this unit a few years ago, but sold it with my last car. Now what I wanted to know is if I install it, is there any way to link the controller on the steering wheel to it?

    Thanks for you help!

edit: if anyone can suggest another unit please do. Looking at spending no more than £70 and want bluetooth for phone, and also ability to connect my ipod touch.

halfords do lots of wiring looms to hook a new stereo into keeping the remote joystick functions

Thanks, will go and have a chat with them. They still offer that installation thing don't they? May get them to do it.

When I bought the CD player for my car, it came with the wiring needed to link to steering wheel controls.

Re: Installing a new car audio unit

Does that head unit have a steering wheel control input? It's usually a blue rimmed 3.5mm jack on the back.

    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...ducts_id=10266
This is what you need to adapt the CAN-bus to ISO, but then you need the appropriate adapter from that to the head unit for the steering wheel controls. If that Nikkai has an input you would need to know what signalling it uses.

Re: Installing a new car audio unit

I thought it depends on specific head unit that allows you to use the controller?? And in my opinion i wouldn't pay £30 or something for Halfords to install and do the wiring yourself when you could probably do it yourself just by following guides on the internet.

Re: Installing a new car audio unit

I recently did a similar thing on my 2004 Fiesta and i used the site Funkstar has just recommended you for all of the cable links between the car and the stereo. I did a bot load of research around the parts i was to order however i now use a JVC car stereo with almost 100% functionality on all the different possible playback options.

I did all the work myself and to be honest, it was a challenge but it was far from one i couldn't handle. Before you take it to halfords i would look up how difficult it is for your model and maybe sign up to an owners forum and ask some questions as it might turn out to be a pretty easy job!

I have fitted one before but thought if it was cheap, then might as well get it done while im there. But when i saw it was £20.................no way!

A neighbour of mine is a car body worker so any trouble I have, he will be able to help me out with it. Went for Kenwood KDC-BT30 as it had bluetooth and the ability to connect to the steering wheel control, although I don't think it has the connector I need. Not an issue as I wont have time to fit it yet, so will check it when it arrives and order anything else I need.

Had to buy a facia plate as well which is £6 on Amazon, but £16 in Halfords

Re: Installing a new car audio unit

If that kenwood came with some plastic shroud/facia on the head unit i would just re-use that instead of getting some facia which is what i did with the JVC headunit i got in my 206.

Re: Installing a new car audio unit

That kenwood is a standard DIN fit, and I bet it does come with a thin bezel to cover the DIN fixing plate. However AledJ's car probably has a non-standard hole for the stereo so need an adapter to take it down to DIN size.

Sorry, I never didn't see your last post.

Yup, those two items are what you need, but you are £10 cheaper if you get them both from Car Audio Direct
