Gap Insurance

Hey all,

I`m getting my new car on friday and the garage had offered me GAP insurnace. Now I had initially accepted but after looking on line I can get it cheaper.

I`m wondering if its worth it though. It seems like a really good idea in that the gap insurance makes up the short fall between the car value and the amount I paid but what are peoples thoughts?

Gap insurance only covers you for the difference between what you get from your regular insurer and what is still outstanding on finance.

Total Loss Coverage is what gives you back the difference between what you paid and what you get from your insurance company.

It seems to sound more like total loss but is advertised as gap..

I guess some peoples GAP insurance is different from others.

When we bought a Zafira for my better half, we got the garage to pony up for GAP and total loss insurance. The insurance they use has it as two separate issues instead of combined obviously.

Thinking about it though, when I bought a Golf a number of years ago, their GAP insurance was like you linked to above.

Well I've never paid for it, I've always managed to get dealers to buy it for me when they refuse to shift on price.

Going by my partners track record of finding people to crash into her, I thought it was a very good idea at the time.
