Somewhat off topic from your issue, but think yourself lucky, I'm currently paying £1,800 a year on a 1.1 Rover Metro

Also, check this site for tweaking your job title for the cheapest quotes

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ins...ce-job-picker/

It'll take about 20 minutes if you hammer through them.

I highly recommend creating a new email address to do this! (to stop spam) and use a fake phone number. If you take out a quote, update your email&phone number when confirming the details

I find Admiral give the best quotes for me.

Avoid places like Swift cover unless you absolutely have to, they don't have proper windscreen cover etc.

If you know how many miles you'll be doing roughly, then be as accurate as you can.

I'm 28, 7 years NCB. Integra DC2 (Group19). Mine's around £410 with Admiral paid off in one payment. Monthly payment quotes were around £550+
Good shout on this, will have a look over tonight... my renewals currently £1100 on a BMW 1series 118d, im 26 with 8 years NCB

    Cheers

I can confidently predict mine won't go down by £300 .... as I consider it unlikely they'll want to pay me for the privilege of insuring me.

I guess it's the benefit of being an old far..... erm .... mature person.

One thing I would always advocate people do (and I'd bet most do) is always, always .... and that's always get comparative quotes before renewing. And that's one reason why I detest insurers that try to put you on auto-renewing policies with recurring credit card charges. In fact, it's why I won't pay by credit card.

Another hint is to be a bit creative with things like your occupation. I'm not suggesting lying about it. That would be, in my view, moronic, as if you get caught, you'll likely end up uninsured, and that is most likely to happen in the event of a claim. But, many of us can accurately and truthfully describe our occupations in more than one category. I sure can. And it can make quite a difference.

When getting quotes, try and sound as mature and responsible as possible. Many companies have an "x factor" value that the operators fill out based on their initial impression of you.

How exactly does that work when receiving quotes online?

Also any evidence of this, as it sounds like rubbish to me!

Got my renewal today, £60 less than last year. Immediately jumped on line, knocked a further £140 off. Could be worse.

Incidentally, I'm currently with Admiral and my best competitive quote is Elephant (which is also Admiral). This is very similar to what happened last year. Also Admiral group companies are about £300 less than anyone else for me.

    Re: Okaaaay, so insurance...

My renewal which is due next month and came through today went up from £55 a month to £89, unsurprisingly I told them to do one, as got a better insurance deal with £0 excess for £41 a month

^Don't pay monthly, you're throwing money away.

Cheaper to get a 0% for 9-12 months credit card (and only use the card for insurance if you don't trust yourself) and buy the insurance out right from the insurer, then pay the credit card off.

Can save from 10-35% in some cases.

Insurance policies are for the year, not on a month by month basis. If you have to cancel, you'll get part refunded anyway.

I was about to ask, do you live in the Bronx?

    Then I saw your location..

Maybe you should move to the Bronx

Don't take the pee though, they can void your insurance if it sounds nothing like what you actually do

If you're with Admiral/Bell/Elephant and you get a cheaper online quote from Admiral/Bell/Elephant, then they will always match it.

For anyone with more than one car in the household. It's worth trying Admiral multicar. I just joined it this year, for me and my gf. You both get completely separate standard policies. There are no down sides to it. You save an extra few %%

Yup, as I have a WN7 postcode but don't actually live in Wigan it seems I have to pay more,

Called Sky insurance today as they offer a 20% discount to babybmw forum members, computer said no.. again due to post code and the fact the cars on a public road.

Finally got a good quote going through quidco and Churchill... £700 for the same policy Admiral wanted £1100 for

I tried this last year. I was on Elephant and 'er indoors rang up to ask about the multicar thing. She would have gotten hers cheaper, yes, but it would have increased my premium. Needless to say, my wife found another insurer.

Has something happened recently? I just renewed at the weekend and it was down over £100 down on last year, the mrs saw a similar drop in her quotes/expectations.

No insurance 'milestones' have been hit that we're aware of, nor any circumstance change.

Maybe the powers that be have decided that if you renew in march it's cheaper as you are less of a risk?

Fingers crossed as I'm due for renewal next month

On the other hand my daily drive is a 1.8 Rover 45 with no mods, but most of the optional factory extras (alloys, leather etc...) costs me £900ish and I'm 28 with 2 years NCB (should be more NCB as have had the Jag for 7 years, but classic insurance doesn't build ncb and I didn't have a "normal" car for a couple of years and lost the ncb I had)

I like the Rover, but as my insurance is coming up, and it hasn't decreased by much at all I am looking to get something a bit more reasonable.
