They are called tape adapters. I got a Sony one, which I used to use in my old car.

Its basically a tape shaped apater which goes into the tape bit of the stereo in the car. Out of the tape shaped adapter, is a wire, which plugs into a personal CD player via a 3.5mm jack into the headphone socket of a personal mp3/mini disc/cd player.

They are quite handy and dont suffer any loss in sound quality. I got mine from the Sony centre if its any help. I think Argos and Index do Goodmans ones, but not sure on the quality of it... about £5-8 for the cheapest ones.

I didnt notice any sound quality deteriation. However, the equipment it was used on wasnt top spec anyway.

I used a Sony Mini disc player, with the Sony adapter.

I was surprised how good it sounded when I used a Goodmans one. The limit with my car audio is the speakers, I couldn't tell the difference between the adaptor and a metal tape I recorded on my hi-fi.

HERE'S a good one. Had the older version for my last car. Great as it has massive anti-jog memory, and the remote commander maens you can leave all th kit in your glovebox out of sight.
