The Official F1 2012 Season Discussion Thread

With their only being about 2 weeks until the first race of the season, I thought it was about time we had a thread to discuss F1.

Anything F1 related, at all, news, results, even just general chit-chat about F1, in here please

So much to discuss, not enough time, I think I'll kick us off with the duck-billed Ferrari, what does everything think of this radical new design change to the noses of the cars?

For the races the BBC don't have live watch the live feed from RTL & commentary from Radio 5

Re: The Official F1 2012 Season Discussion Thread

Yeah Sky having the coverage isn't great.

Season looks to be closer this year (at least Caterham have joined the midfield). The top 10 teams could be covered by around 2 seconds based on what I've read so far on testing.

Top couple of teams seem to be Red Bull and McLaren (yay), followed by Mercedes. Unsure where Ferrari are at the moment but they could be no-where. Lotus looks like it will be near the front with rest fair closely bunched. Should be some good battles further down the order.

Now I've got to work out whether I can be arsed to get up for the early races the BBC doesn't have...

I was about to ask what the people without Sky would be doing, thanks for the link

Always hard to judge where people are from the testing, can't wait to see how it goes when we reach qualifying and get a real idea of their pace.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Re: The Official F1 2012 Season Discussion Thread

I predict there will be lots of cars going round in circles...;-)

Pre-season testing is like the build up to an election - so much noise, little real content.
For example, Ferrari say they are disappointed with their testing results. Really? Or are they just playing games. Nobody will really know until Melbourne.

I note that the BBC are saying they have got the best races live. Hmm, I respectfully disagree. We don't get Australia, Malaysia, Canada, Italy, Japan, or the USA (which *could* be fantastic).
We do get China, Europe (Valencia), Korea, Abu Dhabi. I know which I'd rather see live.

With any luck, some of these tracks will be gone within a year or two, as they are too expensive to run, and they wish to renegotiate with Bernie, which means game-over, as Bernie doesn't negotiate.

Still, I'm not prepared to pay for Sky, so something is better than nothing, and I do believe that the BBC will put on a very good show with the resources they have. Even the highlight shows will be 2 hours long, according to the BBC F1 magazine, and will show most of the race. They have a good team as well.

Last point - IMHO the season is now too long. Despite the exciting races last year, for the first time ever I was wishing the season to be over before the last race. I'd had enough, and it seemed to me that many felt the same way at races - people seemed tired and jaded. There should be no more than 18.

I guess I'm quite fortunate - VM give me the F1 channel for free cos I've already got the full SS package. I deffers wouldn't pay extra for it...

Re: The Official F1 2012 Season Discussion Thread

I was quite looking forward to this season until I heard Sky HD had bagged the exclusive coverage. Then I was angry. Then I remembered we had Sky HD installed a few months ago and all was well with force again

I think Ferrari are going to be stronger this year than a lot of people seem to be predicting after testing but what really interests me is what's going to happen further down the pack with the likes of Force India, Lotus and Caterham

Re: The Official F1 2012 Season Discussion Thread

Mid pack is certainly where the action will be even if it is a similar season to last year (1 man/team dominant). Would like to see some good results for Caterham as well as for Di Resta.

Would be nice to see Rosberg win a race as well. Ultimately though want either Button or Hamilton to win the Championship.

Don't have Sky so we'll see what happens coverage wise (I'll miss the first race anyway - bugger - as I'll be Skiing). Hopefully the BBC highlights programme is good.
