theres only two ways around it,
    1 you haeva radar jammer
    or
2, you have a laser detecter, ur behind a car who's speeding, your detecter picks it up before they notice you..

A radar jammer wouldn't help with a laser... Try a laser diffuser.. of course, they will pull you over anyway, since they will know you are using it!

They don't always know you're using it. Most jammers don't trigger the warnings on the Police guns. If you're sensible and only use the diffuser for a couple of seconds whilst slowing down letting the copper get a reading, you're unlikely to be stopped.

Yes they can, if they can prove their equipment is accurate enough. Generally they operate a 10% margin which is far greater than the tolerance of the equipment though. Add on the 5-10% speedometer inaccuracy (in the faster direction) and if you're nowhere near indicated 80 then you're almost certainly fine.

Most if not all speedometers will read a certain percentage over rather than the actual speed.

E.g the speedo will say your doing 30mph whilst in reality you will be doing 26/27mph.

The degree of inaccuracy varies from car maker, to car maker, but I believe the norm is for cars to read 5% over?

Re: How do Mobile Speed Vans Work?

Well the inacuracy gets worse as you go faster I have found. At 30 it's normally pretty good, and then gets consistantly worse. May differ though.

Re: How do Mobile Speed Vans Work?

so if im doing 70...say... my speedo could be inaccurate and il really be doing like 67/68mph? are these vans usually lenient? ive been caught before by one but was doing 92mph....down hill i would like to add......haha. i knew id definately been caught then. but this time i think im just paranoid cos i seen it, if i was speeding it wouldnt have been by very much. Im still in my first two years and im only allowed 6 points and since iv got three already im really scared.

How long do they take to come through anyway?

    thanks guys!!

Yup it could be. Probably is, but don't rely on it.

    are these vans usually lenient?
    Not particularly lenient or tough.

ive been caught before by one but was doing 92mph....

Idiot No wonder young drivers have so many fatal accidents..

since iv got three already im really scared.
Why weren't you scared *before* you decided to speed though.. that's the question

How long do they take to come through anyway?
Two weeks. I'm almost 100% certain you'll be fine in this instance, but do take the experience to heart eh?
