Couldnt really get into the other engine I bought about 4 / 5 weeks back - never really happy - and with parts being ellusive to find, couldnt see the building experience as being fun.... and it was only 6.5 litres
Anyway - had an e-mail from Peter Knight of http://www.knightracingservices.co.uk and popped up the M1 to see him ealry Saturday morning.
Awesome to chat to - really knows the Chevy engine and went through a few options.
Then he took me to the engine lock up OMFG - must be about 40 blocks in there, along with related cranks and heads.
Spent a bit of time going through a few and Pete showed me an ideal casting, lots of metal around the bores - so they wont move about when on gas - and able to take a silly rebore if needed.
Then went through the work I needed on the cylinder head - and luckily they are saveable (which is nice as they are also a very good casting number and therefore flow well)
Then moved onto the crank I had - a forged item that had been 'abused' a bit - this is going in for machining, but not holding my breath - hopefully it should come out alright. Just glad I didnt take it to the machine shop I intended to - as it would probably be scrap now due to the damage one of the bearings has done.
All in all a good day - at the end of this I will have a very capable block and heads - currently destroking from a 454 (7.5 litre) to a 427 (7 litre) but as the bore is staying the same it should be quite 'revvy'
Cant recommend Peter enough - helpfull, knowledgeable, and 'cheap' (compared to some of the quotes Ive had) but all to race spec - not 'normal' engine reconditioning.
