Re: How to park parallel to kerb

When I was learning to drive I became obsessed with needing to know all the tricks and what markers to check in order to perform the perfect maneuver.
But I think it might be a good idea to forget all that. You shouldn't be thinking "I need to turn to full lock when my mirror passes a certain point." You should just keep practising until you just know instinctively when and how much to turn by knowing where your car is in relation to everything else around you. It doesn't matter if it goes wrong. Just keep trying. There is no magic formula for any of this.

Sorry to BUMP this thread. Need help again please folks. Please look at pic below of position of car in 3 situations, the front is the bit with the headlights.

Now, for the 3 positions , how would you turn your steering to make the car parallel to the kerb. Assume that there is a bright yellow PVC tape at 12:00 clock on my steering wheel.
Please give answers in the form:
1- Turn left 9:00 for 3 seconds, etc.

Re: How to park parallel to kerb

    Depends on
    1) your steering rack ratio
    2) the wheelbase of your car
    3) the acceleration rates in reverse (and first gear)
    4) the actual distances involved

Ie: sorry, but it's impossible to say based on the information you've given us - each car has different variables and part of learning to drive is learning how to assess those variables and adjust accordingly - no-one can do it for you (unless they're your chauffeur..)

That said, the gist of it is:

In situation one you turn the wheel clockwise and reverse a bit. In situation two you give up and try again until you get into situation one. In situation three you give up and try again until you get into situation one.
