Renault Test Drive 2004 - Alnwick Castle

A few weeks ago I was invited down to York for a Renault Test Drive event...... (fantastic day......)

We'll I was lucky enough to experience another one today......... 2 of my mates received invites to a Test Drive event at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland......... I tagged along since we could take 4 adults

Fantastic day......... but due to the Alnwick Castle grounds being slightly flooded from the large down pour of rain lately, the Renault stand had been relocated to a farmers yard.

Between all of us we drove:
    • Vel Satis 3.5 V6 Petrol Automatic
    • Kangoo Trecka 4x4
    • Megane CC 2.0
    • Megane CC 1.6
    • Megane Sports Hatch 1.4
    • Laguna 2.2 dci

The test track was pretty poor compared to what I had experienced at York gliding centre......... 60% of it was country lanes... OFF ROAD! and the other 40% you couldnt get above 30mph...... (probably only a 2 mile circuit too, that takes 5 minutes to drive around... York was better by miles!!!!!!!!!!!)

There was also no safety lessons demonstrating ABS/ESP etc...... which i really enjoyed at York as I scared the instructor with my skills

    ----------------

Most fun car to drive.... Megane CC 2.0....... although i still think it was VERY slow compared to my 1.6 Megane Coupe.....; I kept hitting the rev limiter in second gear and didn't realise it was ready to change gear. Good fun though.

Best Horn.... Kangoo Trecka!!! MEEP MEEP!!!

Best Chick... Chick from the Benfield motors stand

    Sounded like a good day!

What was the Megane 1.4 like power wise? Surely it couldn't have been that great as they are quite heavy?

I assume the V6 wasn't let out to play Nasty work on the front bumper there too!

I've had my Renault for almost a year now, and I still haven't been invited to anything like this. Quite disappointing really

Heh - looks cool, how did you get the tickets?

Yeah - I was gonna say its a shame you didn't get to drive the Clio V6 ... that 'd be good fun

Just got back from the Renault Test day at Bruntingthorpe, great morning, drove a Laguna 2.0 and thought it was truely awful! Got to the end and the guy asked us what we thought and me and my mate started telling him and he tried to get away a quick as possible lol

Then went on the safety demo track where theres allsort of things going on, got a walk through and then we each did the course, was fun raggin tires I did not have to pay for

Then came the second car, a Megane Coupe Diesel, really quite impressed with this car, had a few extras in it but it was really quite impressive.

We were bored so went on the blag and managed to get a third car, a 2.2Dci VelSatis, really was impressed, the car seats were oooge!

over all a cracking day, came back and watched a cracking grand prix!

p.s you get tickets if you are in the press or have bought a renault in the last 5 years or had your car serviced at a renault dealer

Failing that find a mate who works at renault lol

I was at buntingthorpe yesterday, it was a really good day.

I test drove a 1.4 16v clio, didn't really like it a bit slow and really loud inside. Plus the sunroof rattled! Then we went out in an automatic megane 1.6, that was really nice, auto was a bit strange at first but I really liked it!

the safety demo was really good, we have a 3.0 v6 laguna, wow that thing is quick, all the electronic gizmo's make a lot of difference.

picking up my new Octavia vRS this week, so no more renault for me.

I think I got invited as I went on a test drive of a 182 a few months ago!
