Motorbike Law's (License etc)

Right then, my brother being a supreme chav wants to buy a bike of another chav, the bike is over 50cc (he dosent know what size engine it has) and its some form of trials bike (not a road bike) Im just wondering if he will need a provisional license, a CBT and insurance? If anyone knows what the law is with these bikes then could you explain what he would need please?

if its a trials bike then its 'off road' in the similar way a scrambler would be

Which means he can't use it on the road at all, not even riding to his favourite off-road track, or wheeling it out of the garage...

most trials bikes have to be road legal these days to compete tho.. it may be a trail bike however... over 50cc and up to 125cc - he needs a provisional licence with current CBT. Insurance is definitely required as is road tax. If it turns out to be over 125cc, then a full bike licence will be required.
