What car should / can I get for £2000-£3000?

Basically, I need to junk my Mazda Xedos 6 Sport - great V6 engine, very quiet on a motorway cruise, but I'm bored of it and tired of the driveline shunt. Servicing and insurances costs are pretty crippling too.

I've would love to get an Alfa GT coupe but alas, they're £27,000 outside of my budget

I'm not into bling bling cars - would prefer something smart but discrete. Don't mind whether the car is super mini, medium size or big saloon. So wadya reckon?

PS. What sort of trade in value do you reckon I can get on my Mazda.
