    Tracker

Hmmm, it would seem that people with trackers dont get any activation on the tracker until after the 1st month?

I didn't follow all of it, but it seems they might do it to stop people who bought a car with a tracker from waiting until its stolen before signing up. Otherwise everyone will just wait until they need it and only then pay (obviously if it doesn't get stolen you don't pay). A bit like insuring a car only after its been in an accident.

It sucks, but i can see where they are coming from. They might activate it immideatelly if you install it and sign up straight away.

Thats the way i see it anyway.

She was signed up to start with, the car was off the road and the subscription ran out, they then took the money off her for another years subscription but then wont activate the Tracker, even when asked by the Police.....

But what she did was like driving without insurance and then after having an accident phoning the insurance companies to get covered and claiming in the same call!

(PS I'm not saying that she was breaking the law and driving without insurance, but the principle is the same: she took cover AFTER the incident)

Should I let my insurance run out on my car and then wait until I've had an accident to renew my policy? (I think not )

They wouldn't activate it because if they did they would not make any money! She took up the subscription AFTER the car was stolen. The tracker was fitted, but the subscription had run out FIVE MONTHS previously.

That is like renewing your insurance AFTER you are involved in an accident. If insurance companies allowed this they would go bust VERY quickly.

AA or RAC will not recover you on the day when you registered. Its the same principle here, I know it sucks but otherwise everyone would have a tracker installed but would never subscribe until the car gets stolen.

Also, are you sure she had the subscribtion previously? That the tracker was not from the previous owner?

I'm very sorry that she had her car stolen, but i can see why they refuse to turn it on. I reckon what they should've done though is have an emergency fee for which they will turn it on no matter whats the subscribtion situation. Say make it cost 5 annual fees or whatever. This will discourage people from waiting out, but will still let them use it if they are desperate.

They would have to calculate their profit margins for subscribers and charge accordingly, they probably have one claim per ten subscriptions per year, so would have to be 10 annual subscriptions (+ a little extra) for an emergency 'switch on now' fee.

Well, not everyone will choose this instead of subscribtion. But yes, they'd have to calculate it, but they should have it as an option. Maybe also equate it somehow to the value of the car. Although owners of posh cars won't think thats fair. But then they can just subscribe properly, innit.

    Sux royally.

Comparing it to insurance isn't REALLY the same thing. Compare it more to the AA/RAC. You may not be a member, but if you've previously been a member, a let your subscription slip, then break down, you can rejoin and get assistance immediately.

Tracker have a chance to help solve a CRIME, not a minor inconvienience. Given that they've been asked by the police too and refused, shows that they care more about the money than the people who buy their product. Time is ticking away. The scum that stole the car have probably found the tracker and removed it already.

I'd be looking at naming and shaming via the press.....

Well, I agree with you to a point, but there is a lesson to be learned here.

Of course they care more about the money! They are a business! In this capitalist society we live in businesses live for one thing: PROFIT. End of.

That is daft. I can;t believe it actually costs tracker very much at all to locate the car, what will cost them is buying and running the infrastructure that does so. I could understand if they charge her a one off penalty fee for not keeping her subscription up, but a total refusal to co-operate is daft.

The police should get a warrant or sub-poena and force them to give up the information TBH, if I was the policeman investigating I'd be looking at charging them for obstructing justice. I'm sure there's a law somewhere that if you can help to prevent or solve a crime you're legally obliged to?

Yeha if they are not doing it after the police have asked, if I worked for the police I would come down on them like a ton of bricks and royally inconvinience them.
