but this car is gonna hit more bollards, more XXXX Cresent road names, more church fences, more bowling green gates.. than any others

the rear arches should be made from bath sponge.. cos they're gonna be blue rinsed to death

I dunno - I think the 2008 facelift / mk2.5 was quite nice. The front end on the current one could definitely use some work.

I had a 2.0L Titanium and I've always liked the look of the mk2, but the ST/hot hatch versions always looked juvenile and vulgar. I've driven an ST, and it certainly is potent and enjoyable to drive but why is it that to appreciate high(er) performance cars, you must have them styled like a Nike training shoe?

I think that's only an issue at a certain level of the market. Go upmarket a bit and the situations quite different - AMG/RS etc. are very subtle until they floor it.

I prefer them in the more subtle colours - the dark grey and black don't look much different than the standard mk2 car, aside from the (probably decorative only) roof spoiler and the bling wheels (which seem to feature on most new cars regardless of performance)
