Evening folks.
I am thinking about selling my motor, and remaining "motorless" for a few years, however would this mean the loss of my 2 years NCB ? Ie. When I come to insure a new car in, lets say 2005, would I have zero NCB ?
Cheers

I hope some other people can confirm for sure
Knew bringing a car to uni was a bad idea
You'd loose the lot after a fixed period of not having insurance. Ask your currant insurer, however I suspect it'll be as little as 6months!

Generally your no claims bonus lasts for two years after your insurance expires. So in 2005 your bonus will still be there. As always, DYOR.
Will give them a bell in the morning, cheers for your help chaps.
It's what my insurance company told me a year ago. DYOR (for the less foolish (forum confusion)) = Do Your Own Research, meaning best to give them a ring anyway just to be sure.Originally Posted by TomWilko

I think it's probably down to the insurer who you get insured with after not being insured for a while, it's up to them how long a gap they accept.

you loose you NCB if you are not insured for over 2 years. Insuring a car as classic does not count as having a car insured! I speak from personal experience here. What you could do (I guess) is buy the cheapest to insure cheap car you can possibly find, declare it SORN and insure it and only it - will also work up your NCB and as SORN you won't have to pay road tax, just keep it off road somewhere. Trying to figure out whether keeping a car in a scrapyard counts or not

There's an interesting game- going on Elephant and finding the cheapest car to insure. I think I can get a Fiat Panda for under £200 a year, last time I checked....

Stu,
Have you talked to the insurance company about 'laid up' insurance - think its only covered against theft - but will be much cheaper and you would keep your no claims running
Of course, you only need to insure that car for one year in the next five...
