    Smile Bought Another Bike...

Spotted this when i was round at the house of a friend of a friend the other day, sitting unloved in the back garden. Didn't pay much attention to it other than have a quick nose around...but a couple of days later i get a phonecall asking if i want to buy it for £30 as the guys moving. What the hell i think, a little 80cc trials bike would be fun for the kids to play on if i can find some land somewhere...so agree to buy it. When i get it dropped off though, after a quick nose it seems its not a standard Yamaha TY80 like i first though it was...

...and after emailing a guy with a specialist pre-65 and twinshock trials shop, i get this back.

    Hi Jon

There is no real way of dating the TY80 as they were made 1974/5/6 and 1984 onwards and if it is a Whitehawk it will be a 1976 build.

It sounds like a Whitehawk and if it is it’s a very desirable piece. There were 2 models of Whitehawk the first one had 16” rear and 18” front wheels, the later one had 17” rear and 20” front both used a rather agricultural ally front fork extension at the bottom that pushed the spindle out a bit.

The engine on the Whitehawk was no different from the TY80 and the forks, apart from the extensions were the same, otherwise everything was changed.

If you go to www.twinshocktrials.co.uk, join and go to the photo’s section you will see the brochure picture of the later model.

Great little bike and very much in demand, in fact if you want to sell I can put you in touch with a buyer.

Anything you want for it or any advice just give me a call.

    Cheers
    John
    LOL, which was nice!.

I have the carb and various other bits and pieces kicking about in a box of junk that came with it. Also ended up with a pair of DT50 wheels, a DT50 tank and seat, and a DT50 engine which the previous owner was going to try and graft in. Luckily i got my mits on it before he had done anything more than stick the DT engine in the frame...
