If they're on a six figure sum with - comparatively - that little on a mortgage (although I assume it's over a relatively short remaining period) I suspect there are ways they could do that already, if they made some lifestyle changes to reduce their expenditure.
Besides, I wouldn't count dropping some hours to spend more time with the family "life changing" (and I've done it in the past, so I speak with some experience) - life improving, certainly, but it still leaves you needing to work for someone else to pay the monthly bills. For me, genuinely life-changing sums are the ones where you can walk away from working and never have to worry about whether you can pay the utility bills and put food on the table - where your time is absolutely, literally, your own with no commitments or concerns about making ends meet.
According to the Tesla website they still apply to the S and the price takes that into consideration. Presumably they'll apply to the X when that comes out too (and I DO like the look of the X). OTOH, even the lowest price showroom model on the website is more than I'd spend on a car by at least an order of magnitude, so the subsidy is sadly rather moot in my case!
They would need to change their life to change their life then? Hmmm
That comes down to semantics. If you want to take the statement literally, life changing could be anything from minor changes to someone's life to a complete transformation of the rest of their days. Our thresholds are clearly different.Besides, I wouldn't count dropping some hours to spend more time with the family "life changing" (and I've done it in the past, so I speak with some experience) - life improving, certainly, but it still leaves you needing to work for someone else to pay the monthly bills. Indeed, you said as much in your first post ("It depends on how you define life changing.") so I was providing my definition. Everyone's threshold on life-changing is different. I guess it's the distinction between making a difference in your existing life, and changing your life entirely. For me, to earn the epithet "life-changing" you need to be nearer the second definition.
FWIW, if I had the spare £154,900 now I would probably hang on to it until the Tesla X was released. I'd been considering a minibus or crew van, but a 7 seater all-electric with a 200+ mile range and good luggage space would tick a lot of boxes for me right now...
thats VERY pretty
