    Get off my BUMPER

By the time you're a fag paper from my bumper.... you're in my rear view mirror...... you can see the car in front of me is also in a stream of traffic going at the same speed.

As the dual carriagway curves left and right you could potentially see the string of traffic ahead of me (if you were a bit further back)... there's at least 15 cars all doing the same speed.

Once the traffic clears a little I will speed up with everyone else, then pull across. If there's no one in front of me, I will move across anyway when there's space..., and you can sod off at mach 10. Happy days. But right now you don't know how fast I MIGHT go if the road were clear.

but right now, ... you can't go anywhere.... If I move over, you gain 25 metres and then ram yourself up the exhaust pipe of the bloke in front.
    ====

here's the rub. If you smack into my car... its your fault. But I lose me car.

And my car is worth £100.

I won't get another one like this for £100. Forget the whiplash or worse. Forget the personal injury.....

    ====

And you're not the archetypal Audi/BMW/VW motorway stormer. You're not the Rangerover or E class motorway stormer....
nope..... ... I'm surprised... it normally is...

you're young girl in a Corsa, with huge sunglasses, barely able to see over the steering wheel, and I can see you looking at your phone.

you are scant metres from me and it's 0'C and the road is damp. We're doing just under 60mph like everyone else.

In front of me is a semi-safe gap, and I was jut waiting for someone to cut that in half.. the eternal road-balance of being safe but not looking like it's a space for someome to steal and half my stopping distance.

And instead... I've got you licking my rear wiper blade, forehead glistening like Rihanna with a sweat-on gleaming above the wheel of your little hatch, as you attempt to be a vet and insert yourself up the cows arse of my car, armpit deep.

And you're probably whatsapping your mate that you're running late and a miserable little crap-heap is in the way

    /goes away.

Then it isn't worth £100 and that would be fairly easy to argue to an insurance company.

Doesn't excuse the poor driving from your tailgater though.

    Re: Get off my BUMPER

When people do that i gently dab the brake so the lights come on. If im not suitably satisfied with the breathing room they gave me I gradually brake more and more. I have slowed lanes down and caused more traffic with this stubbornness before, but a little bit of a delay in everyones day is better than a multicar pile up IMO.

There was one BMW special edition M6 I remember who decided that sitting up my arse wasnt enough, he had to flash his lights as well... Fortunately his brakes work fine and he quickly learned that gaining 1 car space (with rude gestures on his way past) and then finding out my lights work fine probably wasnt worth the hassle.
Even stupider is once the traffic eased off, he bombed off into the distance at 130MPH, only for me to overtake him again at 70MPH 10 minutes later...

    Re: Get off my BUMPER

Yeah, I go for flashing the brake lights with my left foot. Then if they don't get the message I slow down. Never a fun experience though - I still remember a week after be rear-ended by someone in stationary traffic someone doing makeup in their rear view mirror nearly going into the back of me in stationary traffic again!

    I wish.

Try getting a price for a 19 year old small hatchback. The two owners FSH and 50k wouldn't make much difference. Maybe £150 ;-)

I'd not do that on a road. I brake check people in competiton occasionally but not on a road. If I caused a pile up I'd never forgive myself and one flash of brake lights for someone looking at her phone won't help, it'll just create panic.

    Re: Get off my BUMPER

I just ease off on the accelerator to open up a gap in front, as a a safety zone and get them to slow down. If I get someone flashing, I might dab the brakes, depending on how close they are.

    Re: Get off my BUMPER

Dabbing the brakes when tailgated is as stupid as tailgating itself, both essentially trying to alter someone elses driving behaviour and putting both parties at risk. Concentrate on keeping yourself safe, not enforcing rules onto others.

I was more taken with the snazzy bonnet dent. Could perhaps do with one on the other side to make it symmetrical A suspicious lack of interior photos too.

P/X welcome though, in case you actually have something worse to trade in!

Or for the same money you can get....

    A 200K miles Pug 205 from 1989. 0-60 not available

I see a nice GTi starts at over 3K

Edit: Looks like around here you can get a choice of Focus for £350, so that is probably about the minimum value for car replacement.

Its really not as stupid, not even close. Sometimes you have to be proactive to keep yourself and your passengers safe.

You can tap the brakes without activating them but making the person behind realise they perhaps might not be able to stop in time if you HAVE to stop. 9/10 times this is enough to open a gap behind you therefore reducing the possibility of a huge accident at high speed.
The rest of the time if you very gradually reduce your speed forcing the cars behind you to slow, you then also reduce the possibility of a huge accident. Hopefully when you speed up again, there will be breathing space behind you.

If you HAVE to stop and some one is tailgating you then all the cards are out and if no-one gets hurt, it's pure luck.

Best thing to do, if possible, is pull over and let them past then hold a sensible distance behind them.
