Looks like an imitation of a BMW imitating a Porsche... So sad.
Toyota used to make such lovely cars!

I think pedestrian safety requiring a nice soft bonnet for people getting run over whilst sensible has made front end car styling more of a challenge, but generally car designers seem to be getting better at working within those limits. Either that or I'm just getting used to the look.
I do like the rear end of it and the front is not too bad, for a new car, having to deal with all the safety features as previously mentioned. However, even if I was to buy a new car I would not be tempted with this as it is just too full of BMW parts, it should be a Toyota since they can make all the required components as they do with their other models. It almost goes back to the Subaru BRZ vs Toyota GT86 argument.
Something to consider and an interesting article. I'd rather have new sports cars than get too caught up on who makes what part of it. With a car buying climate that doesn't favour sports cars at all, the fact we have anything these days that's relatively affordable is good news.

I agree in every regard. You say something looks like something else, but can't that be said about everything it is all "IMO". The car still is a toyota and the body holds it's dna as others have noted. All the mar manufacturers are moving with the times, Maybe you guys should as well.
the new one looks like a supra to me on exterior
but is more like beamer on the inside.
although my personal belief is that its success depends on the engine a lot.

I agree.. I think the BMW interior is a good thing, that's always been a strong point with their cars.
The drive train will be a the B58 turbo 3.0 with the ZF 8HP, which is a great engine/transmission combination. Hope for a manual option also. This is basically as good a set up as anyone could hope for.
It might be great, but is it in character?
Alfa Romeo threw away a generation of cars because the best engine they put in them was an Australian (Holden) V6 that was fine but didn't rev like an Italian engine. The 2.2l straight 4 was apparently worse, the power figures were fine but it didn't feel right. The Brera and 159 and Spider were pretty cars with decent handling, but the engine put off the Alfisti and people who weren't into the marque would just go buy a BMW regardless so the total market was tiny.
Given how respected the Toyota V6 engines are and Lotus are getting over 400BHP out of them, it seems odd to me to use a BMW drivetrain.
A very good point, however I think in this case, the engines are well matched, old and new.
The 2JZ-GTE in the MK4 supra was never considered the revviest* engine - just like the B58 BMW engine. I think they are a near perfect match.
*As per the many owners I met years ago. The main enjoyment was from the huge (at the time) midrange torque. Please note, internet, that doesn't mean I was suggesting it doesn't rev perfectly well or any other words you want to insert into my statement. I am fully aware that it is far more important to find fault in anyone's post than to find anything agreeable.

Yes, it absolutely is in character. A Supra's key characteristic is a front mounted, in line 6 cylinder with rear drive. Turbo if possible.
Toyota don't make an I6 engine that meets current modern emissions regulations, and a V6 goes against the core principles of the Supra ethos. It's too expensive to develop a whole new engine for a limited production vehicle, so the BMW partnership is the next best thing. This is the last high revving petrol sports car that Toyota are likely to build ever again, so they were keen to make this car an absolute peach. Also, Akio Toyoda himself was one of the primary test drivers and he's giving it his full backing - that's pretty full on to have the CEO of the company having such a direct influence on the project.
