I think the key in there is 'rigid four wheel drive and no ABS' a la Fiat panda 4x4. Can only think of the early quattro system on a performance car offhand with the manually locking diff.

Shame this systems pretty easy to brake if not looked after, its not jsut teh box itself tho theres the ECU, Acc bulb, switches n various other things...
Always my opinion it was a jump too far at that time by vauxhaull. Yes it's clever, but it's fragile aswell. Ford didn't pay any attention and did pretty much the same with the Mondeo Si 4x4.
Although it did apear to represent the trend on non permanent 4x4 systems, pretty much all the affordable ones (VAG, fiat, Volvo) I belive are based on a similar setup.
I just have to watch out for the viscous couplings giving up (avoid running with any ABS issues, and brake rollers at the MOT are a no no). But they're not hard items to replace, and you can get them made up to your own specification aswell.
I need to get something made up thats less fragile and cheap lol not that thats and easy combo hence my looking at locked boxes, means I can get rid of the 4x4 ecu and the acc block.
Holy thread revival batman:
I reckon the mk3 Hyundai Coupe might be a future classic. It may not be that special to drive, but it is very good looking even though it is just a Hyundai.
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.
