    Question Which dashcam?

Hi folks, currently looking a dashcam for my Skoda Superb. Ideally, I want the front and rear covered.

Any recommendations? I've been looking at the Nextbase 522gw. But open to others. Don't want to pay a silly amount. Will prob hope to have it fitted to use battery rather than 12v cig port.

    Thanks all.

    Re: Which dashcam?

Really I would stick with Nextbase, video quality is very good, easy to use, I have tried other brands and went back to Nextbase in the end.

I would definitely get it hardwired, I did it myself but depends how you feel about that type of thing, its a lot neater and nicer looking

    Re: Which dashcam?

I'd agree on the Nextbase 522gw - its a good one with all the things you need imo. Pair it with this rear cam expansion https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nextbase-Da.../dp/B07PV8NSF2 - you can run the cable in the headlining usually. My dad has one in his car and loves it - that exact model iirc.

I didn't buy one myself in the end though as they are a little too big for my liking - I really wanted one that I could fit just behind my mirror so that it's completely invisible to me when driving (no distractions, and not looking unsightly) - so I ultimately went for a Garmin Dashcam 55 as it's tiny, and I can't see it when mounted. I have ran the cable inside the trim and it plugs into a 12v socket under the glovebox. I don't have rear cover yet though, mostly as I am too lazy to get one, fit it and then run the cable into the boot 12v socket.

I bought the Vantrue N2 Pro.

It obviously costs a fair bit more than the Nextbase, but it's been fantastic. I have bought the hardwire kit for it too, so it'll work on motion sensing when parked, but I haven't installed that yet.

    Re: Which dashcam?

I got a Viofo 119 V3 just after Christmas when it was on offer for £59.99. No idea how it performs, have it wired to a hidden cigar lighter, did have a look at the clips after a few days and since then I assume it's doing its thing?

I have the 4K front only version of this one and I really like it. I've hard-wired it in myself, and I like how it's quite hidden / subtle looking in the car

    Re: Which dashcam?

Fitted enough of these in for people and the best one I have done is the Blackvue DR900S. I use the Nextbase 522GW.
Discrete wise I like the Garmin.

I have Mio 358 (about $100) on my Mazda CX5.
Key features you need to watch out for: resolution: at least 720p. Better to be 1024p or higher. night: low light sensitivity. view angle. At least 120 or more. optional: I prefer an LCD display on it to view w/o other device

    Re: Which dashcam?

    I'm using the apeman C860 front/rear cam.
Fantastic quality footage and yet doesn't break the bank...

I previously had a Nexbase 312GW and whilst it was nice having GPS (for speed etc) it was very niche and the footage was nowhere near as clear as the apeman cam.

    Re: Which dashcam?

I also have a Nextbase 522GW. A good front facing camera with plenty of features. Only issue is that the 'parking monitoring' is a little rubbish as the built in battery doesn't last very long. The quality of the footage is pretty good and it's not too difficult to read things like number plates. I'm not sure if the night time footage is the best quality though, although it is decent.

Also I hate the optional rear camera with a passion. I have it attached to my boot lid as that was the best place to place it in my car. Since it only attaches to the mount with a magnet it constantly moves and I've considered gluing or taping it in place. It's a very poor design and whoever thought of it obviously didn't think about the fact it was going to be in a moving bumpy vehicle. Plus sometimes the footage goes green when you go over bumps.

Everyone always raves about the BlackVue camera being the best, although I don't know much about them myself. I know they look very sleek and can be hidden very well.
Anyone know what is so great about them to justify the £500 price tag though ??

    Re: Which dashcam?

I use a Mobius 1 and Mobius maxi dashcams. They're actually action cameras for use with drones/sports FPV but with a mount they make very discrete dashcams. Hardwire it to the battery and it's quite a nice little setup.
