    Gps

What's the best out of the Navman iCN 510

    http://www.navman.com/land/products/icn510/index.html

    and the TomTom Go 300

    http://www.tomtom.com/products/produ...=72&Language=1

And while we're at it, this Dell PDA/GPS combo comes in at over £100 cheaper than the iCN 510

    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs

Is there any major disadvantage from buying a PDA/GPS combo rather than an all-in-one solution?

    Thanks

No. If anything there are advantages. It's easily transportable, and it's a PDA so you can use it to do practically anything.

TomTom is great software too. And you can use the PDA as an in-car MP3 player too

I assume you don't already have a PDA?

    The tom tom go is a good GPS solution but has a few annoying quirks;

You can't just plonk a postcode in - you have to start with street name, then town, then finally postcode.
It also seems to just go for the shortest route; No way of telling it your preferences or learn from your habits.

I'm looking at the PDA/GPS bundles, as they work out as the same amount of money as a dedicated GPS system... Coz then you get the added bonus of a PDA too.

I need one, i'm too good at getting myself horribly lost.

I use PDA (iPAQ 2210) with bluetooth GPS and Tom Tom 5. Works a treat plus I can use other mapping software (Memory Map 1:50000 OS maps) when I go walkabout from the car

Now what I'm looking at is to get a clearance system with tom tom 3 on it, then it's only 60 euros to upgrade to tomtom5.

I havent weighed up if this is a more viable option yet, price wise.

I've been looking on http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/ at their clearance bundles.

tomtom 5 does seem to have better route planning than tomtom3 and can support postcodes in a more intellegent fashion without any additional plugins.

I'm looking at TomTom 5 for my Dad atm.
A fixed unit makes your car more nickable (he's already had a notice from the local authority that his car may be at risk!)
A PDA based unit just gives you yet another gadget on top of your phone to cart around.
A phone based system keeps things easy to transport and less nickable but has a teenie screen.
Oh and an XDAII based system just looks silly when you're making calls!

Regardless it's the cost that's the biggest pain especially if you want a decent screen (Dell X50v or HP 4700).

Moby does your 6680's screen offer enough space to work effectively or do you rely on the voice system?
