Yes they have claimed that Koxy.

But it would be interesting to find out how they qualify that statement. Is it not one VTEC unit has failed ever? Find that hard to believe. Is it not one VTEC unit failed within the cars 1 year warranty? Thats not such an amazing statistic then.

Can anyone do some reasearch into exactly what honda mean by faliure?

Well id say that this pretty much qualified as an answer, for me at least.

That VTEC faliure thing is pretty meaningless. Imagine I have a Civic VTi on a K plate. The engine fails. I scrap it.

How do Honda ever find out about that? They don't.

However you look at it i don't believe it can be seen as a bad thing, the fact that very few manufacturers would ever be able to make a similar claim still puts Honda universally acclaimed at the reliability champions.

Going to see a Pug 306 tonight. Having real problems finding things on Autotrader in my area to test drive though. If anyone can find any dealers near the Didcot area (am just down the road from there) with any of 200SX, Fiat Coupe Turbo, 2.2 VTi Prelude or A3 1.8 Turbo in stock, let me know the URLs

Was planning on getting initial test drives at dealers to see if I could rule any out instantly, and then once I've decided the model of car I want, include private ads as well.

On that note, I was thinking about my pretty abysmal mechanical knowledge, and wondering if any of you have experience of RAC, etc inspections for used cars, or of 3rd party warranties?

Dont buy from a dealer with a budget like this, throwing money away paying for someone elses profit margin.

I'd imagine that its that none have failed due to them being mechanically wrong just problems with wear and tear as claiming it within warranty periods would be stupid tbh, would be very interested to find out for definite though.

Yeah, dealers for test drives ... anything goes for the final car - private/trade depends on best deal
