    Question Running your car

Im currently looking to change my car as my current car (Fiesta 1.4 16v) has far too many things wrong with it.

Now id like to know how much it costs you per 1000 miles to run your car?

    1.4 16v Fiesta Zetec
    1000 miles = £135ish
Tank capacity = 30 litres approx
Range on tank - 200 miles

I do approx 1000-1500 miles a month so its costing me roughly £200 a month to run it.

    Thanks

My mate just had his mondeo converted to dual fuel. He gets the same mpg using LPG as petrol, but its half the price. The conversion was £1000 at a training centre as they used it as a demo (the tutor did the work). How and what type of road you drive on has a big impact on mpg, personally I prefer bigger engined cars as you dont have to rev the nuts off them on the motorway, I find this increases mpg over long distances. But again this is driving style dependent. Dont forget to factor in depreciation in to running costs, an ex workmate ran an XJ40 jag to work everyday. Quiet a few people thought this was flash, but it only cost £1,000 to buy, and if driven smoothly got 35mpg, and he had no depreciation to deal with. Think he was looking at LPG as well.

Going by current petrol prices and the amount per time I fill up:

    Fiat Cinquecento 899 SX
    1000 miles = £115-£120ish
Tank capacity = 35 litres approx
Range on tank - Around 240 miles at a guess with my driving habits. I never let it run too dry.

    I get around 36MPG

Can cover about 300 miles with reasonably sensible driving, from a tank, costing about 30 quid...

    Fuel: £110-120
    Oil/filter: £8.50 (3k interval)
    Tyres: £10
    Servicing: £21
    Insurance: £100

Thanks for the input so far, it seems I could run a 2l mondeo for the same price, as my car also uses around £30 a month in oil & add the £78 insurance...

Just need to find one in the next two weeks as everything is due next month...

Well ive got a 2.0l zetec focus, which should be the same lump as the older mondeo (not the new new one) and thats not all that good on petrol, 28mpg under medium use, 36mpg with motorways etc thrown in.

Dont kid yourself that a 2.0 modeo is gonna use the same amount of petrol as a 1.4 fiesta, its gonna use alot more, heavier car, bigger engine = more fuel used to go the same speed

£30 a month in oil in a 1,4 fista!!!! OMG your engine is slaughtered mate. Get rid of it. I do a complete oil change every 3 thousand miles on mine and that uses about £30 quid of oil (4 litres) plus a filter.

I gotta say...if you are getting 200 miles per tank on a Fiesta you might wanna take the handbrake off or get lighter shoes!!! cos at 30mpg you are losing out big time and I bet its your right foot

    How broken is that fiesta?

Based on getting From North Norfolk to the far end of Cornwal
Going with a petrol price of 82p

2L DOHC Sierra estate (mit einen cat so less fuel econ than I could be getting)
    Tank Capacity = 60 Litres
    Range on Tank = 450miles
    1000 miles = £111

Maintainance price over 3 years has been regular 6K oil changes, 4 new tyres, break pads, a new backbox and some HT leads. Nothing out of the ordinary yet.

    Based on some weekend motoring

    2.9i V6 4x4 Sierra estate
    Tank Capacity = 60 Litres
Range on Tank = 300miles (on a good day)
    1000 miles = £166.... probably more.

    It's right.

I give lifts to one or two people a fair bit, and there are other contributing factors I'm sure. But yeah that's pretty accurate. Measured it just yesterday actually

Do about 400 miles commuting a month. Running costs of about £100 a month of which £40 is petrol and the rest insurance, tax, repairs, servicing, etc.

So 1000 miles would be £250 - but thats coz of low mileage i do.
Just the petrol for 1000 miles would be £100.

My mpg is rubbish (25-27), but thats coz of silly roads i have to take while commuting. It does 49mpg on motorway trips.
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.

Reason is, sitting on the motorway for an hour to three hours at 4000/5000rpm

Yesterday I got it to 39 miles to use a quarter of a tank...

The clutch is a switch, either on or off, hill starts are a no go tbh...

Suspension, well if it felt like there was any in the 1st place it would help...

Will see what an MOT test says & then I can laugh....

To make people feel a little better...........

200 Miles to a full tank ( regular Unleaded, if its super or optimax goes down a lot)
    roughly £50 per tank ~(50l)

So that 1000 miles journey would cost me £250.00

Oh Last insurance renewal was £1,600.00 for the year.
