    i cant imagine the ride is too smooth on the lower pic - its been lowered and has about an inch of profile on those tyres... not my chosen type of car for any journey longer than a mile or 2

    Well there would be a coil-over and shock change as well, so the ride wouldn't be too much worse, and it would be a lot better in the corners.

    Doesn't half look good though..despite my photochop skills (or lack of)

    Don't do it! You'll look a right knob driving that. Wheels larger than 17" have no place on a Golf or any other car that size.

    Actually they were intended to be 17" in the picture, but my photoshop skills (ahem) resulted in them appearing larger than intended. They are lovely wheels, but there are limits as to how big - no doubt about it.

    Even with coilovers/new uprated dampers the ride is still gonna be mega hard with larger wheels. Its the tyres that kill the ride quality because the tyre sidewall is reinforced.....

    You can get up to 20" wheels on a mk4 with very minor arch alterations, ride prolly wouldn't be up to much mind, 18" would looks perfect judging from that photoshop
