they're meant to be the softest gtis that ever existed aren't they?

the slower ones should definately be chippable, if only to teh speed of a quicker one

    GTi - MUST BE A RED 'I'

180 bhp, same performance as my V5 on paper, BUT

Can be easily chipped to 200+ horsies

Very comfortable car to drive, very quick in a straight line, perfect motorway cruiser. you'll pick up a nice one for 8k, it will probably have cruise control fitted as standard (like mine)

Come drive mine to get an idea.

I think the 2.0l ones were there softest (on paper my diesel zr and the 1.4 zr I had before that were both faster to 60) - don't know if the 1.8 was newer and faster??

The 2L was a joke - its an 8v engine kicking out 115 bhp, nice comfy car and a good looker ,but NOT what a GTI should be. Thats the normal looking Mk4 with the all silver GTI badge. The one Coco needs to go for is the GTI (red I) which is the 1.8 Turbo.

hmmm, how can you tell from the adverts whether it's a 150 or 180? Other than when it says GTI(180)

    Ok - I'll correct myself

    GTI 150 hp - (Red I) - 0-60 about 8 secs, good for chipping to 200 bhp
    GTI Anniversary Edition - 180 bhp - 0-60 in about 7-ish

Also consider the GT Tdi PD 150 - Turbo diesel good for 0-60 in 8.5 + chippable

Edit - the GTi(180) has bodykit, spoiler and GTI in silver on the front grille, any normal looking Mk4 that claims to be 180 is suspect.

    This is the GTI-180

Skii that's an anniversary, but you can get the 180bhp powered golf without the kit.

150BHP had the KKK K03, a chip, induction and exhaust would have you knocking on 200bhp.

180BHP model had the k03 sport, mods as above you'd be looking at 210-230bhp.

210 and 225BHP models were fitted with k04 turbo, chip exhaust and filter would give you at least 250BHP.

The man to speak to is Bill Brockbank at Badger5, his ibiza 1.8t is pumping out 360bhp

3 door cars are more desireable so go for more

I'm also pretty sure all the 1.8t golfs were 180bhp from 2002 onwards.

Np, if this is the £8000 motorway car the GT-TDi is a damn good call although they were going for 10k+ last time i looked, they are very tuneable engines (how does 190bhp & 300lb/ft sound?) and quick enough in standard form.

Yeah, although having looked at the revo site it appears that even the 150bhp GTI can be chipped to 207bhp and 293lb/ft torque etc, which brings the price down closer to the 8.5/9 mark which is what I'd hope to get for the clio etc.
