just got a car with air con, no way am I giving it back! Heh, my car can do 60 in 2nd, although fuel consuption would easily triple!

Well as with most things, there's two sides to the story. At motorway speeds, it's probably true that using aircon uses less extra fuel than opening a window.

At Motorway speeds the aerodynamic implications of opening a window would probably do more than turning on the AC, especially as opening the window would lead you to turn the stereo up as well, plus you'd be breathing in more fumes and have the posibility of foreign objects coming in thru the now open window...
I know if my car had AC still I'd be using that rather than opening the window...
