Can it really be a kit car if it's got a K-Plate registration?

Kit cars based on and taking, I think two, mechanical systems from a donor car carry an age-related and not a q plate...

    Aah - this old debate
The american version of 'Street Legal' is vastly different to the UK version of street legal - in as much as their top lads get a police escort for a very short road trip, while the UK boys (and girls) HAVE to do a 30 mile cruise at each event to qualify to race the next day.

Not a car you can use day to day, but it was built with a purpose in mind and thats not the daily shopping run!!

Why wouldnt it be road legal?
Steve uses it quite regularly to drive to shows, hes only just down the road from me in Hitchin.

Have a look at http://www.streeteliminatoruk.com (or if that doesnt work http://www.seatcupra.net/users/flapper/SEUK )

Aah the keyboard racers (not aimed at you!)
I think for managing to get 4 cars from the UK, Canada and the USA together, at the same time for a "one off" race of 'genuine' cars takes some doing, yes the rules were biased towards the UK street eliminator cars, but as I mentioned before the american variant are practically 'Pro Mod' cars used on the road (awesome to watch though )

Here's the offical site for the WSR http://www.worldstreetrace.tk and this is the american site for the Nationals.. where the 'road legal' cars race (under Workd Street Nationals) http://www.speedworlddragway.com

What's the particular appeal of Drag racing then? Just can't quite picture where the buzz is.

Is it the speed, or the engineering or the atmosphear or the compotition? Or a bit of all of them?

I'm not doing it down, I just don't see it myself. Wondering what the 'scene' was like, that's all.

its the timing...the imperceptable "moment" when the billion horse power lets it all go, and you get thrown foward so fast, you think you might die!!

The engineering, the degree of accuracy, the split second of raw monster power when the driver controls the clutches....

    thats what I'd guess at.

I've not done it...and while it has no corners, I'd like to try one day

    Zaks answered that very well,
For me (and growing up very close to Santa Pod) it was the noise that got me interested, and walking past jet cars on the way to school.
Now its the fact that the cars are engineered very well, the brute horsepower of 7000bhp being transmitted to the tarmac, the noise, the flames and the smell.
I havent driven mine yet - but I have been assured that your first hard launch gives a rush & a light head (and thats only with 600/625 bhp)
Its only a 'cheap' form of motorsport where you can turn up pay an entry and signing on form and rag the nuts off your car, yes there arent any corners (until the end anyway) but its the control of the car from setting up engine/trans/suspension to reading the lights, to getting every gear change correct - one mistake on that 15 (or 4!!) second run could mean the difference between winning and failure
There is also the fact that when mines finished, im 99% certain there isnt anything around Dunstable that could touch me in a straight line... until I get to Hitchin

Zak - when this is all finished, shook down and running well a drives yours if you want it?
