Exclamation Thumping noise coming from speakers!!

    Hi guys,

I have a Japanese Imported MX5. It has a good sound system. Bose speakers and Amp. However when I got the car the cd player wasn't working so they bought me a nice Pioneer cd player and installed it for me.

However, there is an awful "thumping" noise everytime I change radio
station, switch from CD to Radio and when I turn on/off the cd
    player!

Its a loud thump noise coming from the speakers!

I brought it to the garage and their "sound expert" dude spoke alot of
waffle to me about sound, speakers, amps blah blah blah. The bottom
line is that he says that in order to get rid of the noise he would
have to bypass the amp thus loosing quality of sound. He also said
this was a common problem with japenese imports using european stereos.

Has anybody else come accross this?? Surely the cd players you get
here should be able to hook up to an amp bought in japan??

The car has Bose speakers and amplifier which is apparently located
under unit where the gear stick is!

    Any advice/help appreciated!

don't think it'll damage it tbh... My head phones go "wallop" when i turn the amp on. I wouldn't worry about it if they still work

Dont worry about it, if you really want to change the station without thump turn the volume down, change then up again

Doesn't work! I tried that. The thumping is just as loud with the volume down

Not sure but you may have to go the route suggested to you with bypassing the Bose amp. TOTR Sierra's used to have a seperate amp, and if you replaced the head unit you quite often had to bypass that.

The cd unit itself has an amp on it, so perhaps that could be used instead of the original amp

Or you could find out what the origanl head unit was, and get one via ebay, if you think that would solve it.

If you still have the original head unit you could just add a cd changer to it

My thoughts too, but it depends how the speakers are amped, if it's six speakers and a six way amp then probably not, as the head unit will only be 4 way, or if it has a sub somewhere ?

Best bet is to take it to a decent ICE shop and ask their advice, if it's a good shop they'll have seen similar before.

will sound pants in comparison but routing the sound through the headunit should solve the thumping problem.

considered buying/testing a different amp to power the speakers?

bypass the amp, if you bought a decent head unit it wont make a difference to the sound anyway, an amp cant make something sound better than the source it gets anyways, only louder.
