    Suggest me a fun car.....

Ok so I have a budget of no more than 10k, I want a fun car, something preferably two seater, but thats not necessarily a must...in fact most of the shortlists are coupes but 2+2

Huyndai Coupe (new shape) I like the look and the 2.0l is very appealing, not only that the 3yr roadside and 5yr warranty means a 3yr old is in budget and would come with warranty....
Honda Civic Type R - Its just gotta be on the shortlist don't it.
Alfa Romeo 147 2.0l Selespeed - Its gotta be on the list, my sister had one and it was a monster car, really good fun and I can get a 51/52 plate within budget...

Are three I have considered, I am 26 and my postal code is not the best, so get suggesting and see what you come up with

    Ta peeps...

Mazda MX5? I seriously want one of the newer style ones. Not the brand new one. But not the ugly 1991-onward one.

The Hyundai Coupe is very nice, and it won't fall to pieces. Reliable as hell. But it's somewhat underpowered IMO. The 2.7 V6 only pushes out about 140BHP It'll pin you back in your seat when it accelerates though

i'd suggest an mx5 too. they hold residuals amazingly - 13 year old ones still sell for 3 grand!

civic is nice, but has a bit of a reputation problem round this end (mostly driven by pratts), and the alfa wont be overly reliable..

    what about cocos old westy?

someone will suggest a 200sx (i can hear them comming a mile off), and there'll be a mondeo soon too..

a4 convertable, or, i hate to say it, but a 3 series coupe is one of the best handling cars for a few years old with that kinda budget. other than that, an mr2 is a reasonable suggestion, or you might get an mg of some variety for dead cheap.. probably not the coupe but the bigun might handle ok.

old clio 182? golf r32 (the older gtis were naff)? focust rs? or for some beauty, a very mildly modded astra coupe, or a 406 coupe would do ya nicely.

you could also just get a mini cooper s for that money, now that car is ment to handle like nothing else, and it practically *IS* a 2+2, with a bit more charisma than a civic if ya ask me..

finally, you could pick up a decent scooby or evo for that money, and it'd sure be quick

insurance is a biggie, I mean its £1,200 for a mini cooper S for example, and a Honda civic Type R will stretch me to a grand, but rather puzzeling, a TVR Chimera is a grand too, now thats tempting

MX5, sorry but too much of a hairdressers car for my liking.

Clio 182, doesnt appeal, I have a Clio 1.4s now and the boot is too small for my golf clubs unless I take them out of the bag, so I must add at this point, it needs to fit two sets of golf clubs

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep em coming...

2 sets of golf clubs? you should have said.. lexus is200 or bimmer 3 series it is!

otherwise, if you want cheap insurance on a quick car, you have to go with something that traditionally you'd think of as a bit dull. you would get a volvo 850r/v70r for that money with some change left, and they are QUICK cars (250+bhp stock) with all upgraded suspension.. if you had a few quid more you could get an s60r (15 grand will get an ok one on an 02 plate), and they were £40k when they came out, and a very quick car (0-60 in 6 secs). bargin imo.

a fun car has to be an MGBGT... those things fly... the V8 under the bonnet roars and they seriously grip the road.

Golf GTI would by my choice.

If you want a fun car.... with stacks of power/speed/acceleration... then the 1.8 Turbo Golf GTI would be the car......... 150/180bhp as standard.... induction kit, exhaust, remapped ECU will see you 220bhp without any problems at all

    0-60 in 6.2 seconds ish

Depends how bothered about dealer warrenty you are... you should be able to source a late DC2 Integra Type R for that kind of money, or possibly if you're very lucky an early DC5.

    Be different. Please!

bit girlie, but what about an audi tt?

you can get z3s for that money, but sadly i dont believe you can get a 'slow' version of the m coupe, cos that thing is just a godlike car..

lotus elise, in budget, but only really early ones, and im not too keen on that.

VX220, is unfortunately a massive no no, went in it when it was launched at the NEC motor show and got stuck in the car, on the stand, had to get out backwards. Im not the narrowest of people lol

VW golf, seriously considering, but I dont want a cained one, and that could be hard to find....

Im going to be as different as I can, the S2000 is SERIOUSLY tempting, it could be a budget stretch, but all the same, thats just an insane car for the money.

RX-7's are a no no unfortunately, the insurance is obscene.....

Thanks for the suggestions so far....

Whatever you do - don't get a nissan 200sx! Way too much fun for you, and way too unpractical. I tried to get 10 sets of golf clubs in mine, but they wouldnt fit!

Infact - buy a volvo or a mondeo, your clearly after a real "fun" car
