I have to admit i feel really sorry for old clarky. It must be so upsetting and annoying to have thought you had realised an almost lifelong dream, only for it to turn into an absoloute nightmare
Good press coverage for ford though, huh? Thank god they dont build their hatchbacks like they build their supercars

Hmm, If I were to spend that amount of money on the car, I would have Ford remove the alarm/tracker system (for free!) and then have an aftermarket alarm fitted..

you'd have thought Ford would have put a bit more effort into making sure Clarkson's GT was tip-top given his position to give Ford a proper hammering in the press.
I think I'd have cried too. I can imagine finally getting my hands on a DBS9 in 35 years time to find out its a complete piece of junk. Completely soul destroying.

My '92 ford imobiliser's a bit on the nutty side. Quick bit of wire shoved across Relay XII sorts it out
crikey! it's such a great story to read though, we've been there with him through the years, and now he's sent it back!

A black and yellow one overtook me on the way to the station the other day- with a custom plate, GT 52. I didn't realise there were only 28 in the country!
I really don't understand it to be honest.
I could understand giving it back if it had a catastrophic failure, but couldn't he (or indeed Ford) just completely strip the alarm out (or just disable it) and install an aftermarket one? Job done, and probably zero problems afterwards.
I think it was more that fact that Ford were utterly hopeless, and the car was completely impractical (getting stuck on the hammersmith bridge for example).

You'd think they could fix the alarm in a heart beat, if they all have this problem its clearly a major fault, how on earth did they let themselves get into that position.
I'm surprised he's not selling it privately tho as he could make loads!
If you actually read the article the last sentence is:Originally Posted by Gordy
One thing: I know I could sell the car privately and make a £50,000 profit. But I have never profited from my position as a motoring journalist. And I never will.

I know I did read the article hence why I noticed that he wasnt going to sell it privately......Originally Posted by Twigman
I still don't know why he didnt, because the car was so problematic at the very least the extra money would help get over things
Gordy - I'm sure the fact that he can afford to buy a £100k+ car means he has no need for more money
