Escort Cab - yay or nay

Just come back from dropping my oldest off at school.... off work as I have mysteriously managed to go deaf over the weekend
Anyway, as I got back to my close I noticed one of the people over the road has an old escort cabby for sale E/F reg.
Non std wheels, paint looks like well err it needs blowing over (though not rusty) interior looks semi decent.... all for the pricley sum of £100

So - do I buy this for the missus and/or breaking for spares (as im sure I could get more for it on the bay)

Or should I go back and suffer my silence in peace

If I had any mechanical skill, I'd have it. Really fancy a convertible for a bit of summer cruising.

LOL - Im having to redesign my whole valvetrain again (dont ask....) so £100 wouldnt go very far at all... stupid drag engines, why cant they be as simple as a road engine

Just popped over the road, but nobodys home.... front pumper needs spraying, LH wing needs spraying, rest needs a good mop, wheels / tyres are good, looks solid underneath (only had a quick look), interior needs a vacum and shampoo and couldnt see any tax.

I think in parts I could get £100 for the wheels/tyres so as soon as I see someone come home, over I go oooh actually as long as the hood looks semi OK.... otherwise will have to barter a bit!!

    Pics later maybe

    Do it

Even if you rag it to death over the summer, £100 is only a few tankfuls of petrol, or a few nights out.

    Go fer it!

Actually managed to catch the bloke in........
Bodywork needs doing big time, dont think there is 1 panel that isnt scratched / dented (nothing major, but in need of TLC) but im a sadistic so and so, theres nothing like prepping a car for paint.
Chassis - for a G plate its in very good condition from what I can see, nothing major jumped out and said PROBLEM.
Interior - full of mud and straw as has been kept on a barn, generally tatty
Hood - not sure if these are manual our auto - either way it didnt want to play (though I could have been doing something wrong!!) and it stayed firmly down.
Engine - again looked clean for its age, but battery flat so didnt hear it running.

Bad points...... no tax, no MOT..... NO V5

Got 2 stories on this one a) it his wifes - who he has split up with b) he works on a farm and the 'bloke wanted it moved' wouldnt budge on a ton - owes him money for tax??? didnt SORN it... blah blah so..... its staying where it is.

Shame as if the bodywork was done and the interior jet washed would make a nice car.... if only he had a V5

    Good wheels and tyres though

Sounds like one of those ideas that sounds like such a good idea at the time and then £100 rapidly becomes lots and many and lots more pounds until you wondered why you'd done it - if it had any tax or mot i reckon it'd be a good idea otherwise i wouldnt touch it personally!

tell the dvla its been abandoned and you want to claim it for yourself - i believe you can do this for free - or a small fee - they'll write to the last registered owner and if they dont want it its yours
