    Tyres.....

Few weeks ago I bought myself 2 new tyres for my car... Toyo Proxies T1-S 205-40-17 £68 a piece.

I need to buy 2 more tyres for the back of my car now....

A friend of mine has 2 x Yokohama A539's for sale.... absolutely brand new... all bundled together still in the packaging as he got them from mytyres/blackcircles/whereever.

He wants £110 for them both.

What do i do? Buy the yoko's for £110... or match my front tyres and buy some more Toyos (so i will have Toyos all round).

Just had A539's on mine. Paid £150 fitted for the pair so that's a decent price

Yoko and toyo use similar compounds so you would be fine with them.

The yokos are £158 from mytyres.co.uk so assuming your friends ones are brand new then you'd be getting a bit of a bargain!

Goodyear F1 GSD3's aren't crap in the wet. I can honestly say, the Goodyears NEVER let go in the wet, even when driving swiftly. Of course if you lit the tyres from a standing start they'd let go, but with regards to steering on roundabouts etc, no other tyre I've used in the wet has come close. Amazing tyres and if I could afford 17" versions right now I'd have them on in a blink of the eye.

I have A539s on the front of my MR2, grip in the wet is fine IMO, only time they've let go was when I really took the mickey into a wet greasy roundabout, and that was easily controllable.

I only buy Goodyear Eagle F1 or Toyo T1's - no other tyres come close IMHO.

They may be expensive, but then they are the only thing holding your car on the road, I think its worth spending a bit extra.

Onthe subject of tyres, which of these is better for a mondeo hatch V6 auto MkIII Zetec S?

    1) Pirelli P-Zero
    2) Conti Sport Contact 2

When we got the car it had new Pirellis on the front and orignal Contis on the back. I think the Contis are standard on the 911s, that suggests they're better?

    I'd go with none - Eagle F1s.

    I'm at it again!

    My never-ending tyre-replacement program continues.

If you can get F1's to fit buy them. So far I've tried Avon ZV1, Michelin Pilot Sport SX, Pirelli, Goodyear F1 (GSD2) and currently have Michelin Exalto 2 all-round.
Once again I need two more tyres and while the Exalto 2 have been very worthy (good all-round grip, predictable break-away, not too noisy, reasonable wear-rate) I want to try something different.

I've been interested in the Proxy T1-S and Yoko A539 but all I've read and been told says great in the dry but more suspect in the wet.
To me wet performance is vastly more important than all but predictability, extra-specially in the UK. The F1's gave me superb service in all conditions so in the end I'll be placing an order for two more tomorrow!

P.s. The differences between the Exalto 2 and F1's wasn't as much as I expected in general use. However on the limit the F1's often dumbfounded me and gripped in situations I'd be expecting progresive understeer on any other tyre. They ARE progressive but have that nth-degree more grip that really really impresses.
