Yes, I know that one - it's bizarre, all that swooping concrete...Originally Posted by 5lab

Also, some of those questions are stupid- 'When parking a car, how can you reduce the chance of theft from the vehicle?' (or something along those lines). I thought this was a DRIVING theory test.

Toucan crossing's allow bikes across aswell. I've never seen one.
Think I got 31 on my theory back in the day, did it in about 3 minutes and forgot to read the questions proper
Thats only to show you've done all your questions mate, not that you got them all right!.Originally Posted by mnet674

Is that *just* in milton keynes? Because although as a general rule at a two lane exit you use the left lane to go straight on it's all dependent on the individual roundabout. There are quite a few round here where you have to be in the right hand lane to go straight on and there is a single lane exit at the other sideOriginally Posted by tiggerai
I share your hatred of old gits on roundabouts tho - what is it that prevents them from following simple bright white arrows that point in different directions!?
The fact they've misplaced their "jam jar" glasses and have to keep squinting to even make out brightly coloured objects ?Originally Posted by Emzay
Hold on. Surely the prats are the road designers?Originally Posted by tiggerai
If entrances to the roundabout have multiple lanes and some exits only have one lane, the correct choice of lane should be VERY clearly marked well in advance by both markings on the road and signs by the road.
Otherwise, when approaching the roundabout, how are you supposed to know there's a single-lane exit?
Another thing: when I was doing motorbike training I was taught to never approach in the left-hand lane (of 2) when going ahead on a roundabout. If you do, stupid car drivers* will always assume you're turning left and pull out in front of you.
(* Guess that includes me now.)

there is a roundaobut in brighton with 3 lanes going on, and only 2 going off (unless you want to do a eue) - ie 1 lane goes left, one goes straight on, the other vanishes. very poor road design

It's a VERY easy roundabout to use, it's just lots of mini-roundabouts mergded together - just treat each one differantly and your fine. Having said that my mate had an accident on it the other day - oops!Originally Posted by Eazieb
To be fair with the roundabout moan:
Every driver SHOULD know how a basic roundabout works, yeah - left lane for left, straight on left/middle and sometimes right, and right to go right.
But to be fair, there are some VERY confusing roundabouts, ambiguios roundabouts that even locals to an area can find confusing - let alone people who have never been to that area. If you KNOW a roundabout is confusing to yourself, your stupid to assume that people who have never used that roundabout arent going to make a mistake.. admittadly they shouldnt - but can you honestly say you've never got into the wrong lane by mistake, or mis-understood the markings on the road? espically when they're worn out like most of them are.
The only thing I wouldn't excuse is when someone just doesn't check their mirriors, thats just stupid and bad driving, if your on the right lane, and realize you wanted to be in the middle of a roundabout - if nothings coming and you have checked that, who cares - just go whereever. But for christ sakes check your mirrors, and blind spots first!
So there. </rant>
also, the twin bridges in bracknell.. a complicated roundabout and a half which is made worse cos ever 6 months the council paints new lines on showing where they want cars to go. as a result, some follow the lines, some follow the 'old' lines (or where they were) = accident city, on the busiest roundabout in town. super.
