    r32 released..

    http://www.whatcar.com/News_Article.asp?NA_ID=216501

not all *that* impressed tbh. maybe a vxr is a bit more of a handful only being fwd, and it wont make such a noise, but it *is* 5 grand cheaper..

Strange as it sounds i'm really looking forward to seeing the Mazda 3 Hothatch coming too, Tho it does sound like the Astra VXR is still a pretty good all rounder.

6.5s to 60? From a 3.2 litre v6... in a Golf....... oh dear, oh dear

Even more amusing is according to that current R32's take a staggering 6.6 to reach 60

Surely they would be better off with a much lighter, more highly developed 4 cyl unit. Ok so you'd miss out on the torque and the noise, but it would help the performance a bit. I'd have thought the normal current Golf GTI isn't that far behind the new R32 on performance?

it's exactly what Skii describes. The original VR6 Golf was similar. As a standard road car, it was gently hot. Made a good auto! actually.

the way to think of it (imo) is like a baby GT, not a baby sports car. it should actually wear the badge gti.. i'd much rather have one of them than a vxr for long motorway journeys.. i recon its main compotition is the bimmer 130

I belive it will be a VR6, cant see them putting all the effort into designing it then not bothering using it over and over and over. PLus youd probe get packaging issues with a v6, the 2.0 must need lots of grease to fit, id hate to see the bay on a R32

But Audi have had the A3 3.2 Quattro for almost 2 years now....
if its the same engine that was in the mk4 R32, then its rubbish.. old design engine, and quite thirsty too compared to more modern designs. gimme a 20v t anyday

people in the tuning world actually say its cheaper to get big power by chucking a 1.8t 20v into the latest golf.. than it is tuning the new 2.0l FSiT.

also.. its not the VR engine.. its a real v6

You all say that 0-60 in 6.5s is rubbish but thats quoted going through all the gears...right?

So you can take a whole load off that if its just gear 1-3

What gave you that impression? Thats going through however many gears it takes to get to 60, so probably 2. A lot of hot hatches used that 'trick' to get faster 0-60s, a prime example being either the punto GT or saxo VTS, cant recall which, but one of them was geared for like 57 miles an hour in 2nd, the other for 62 so they could quote better times.
