Just wondering how this compares to modern day insurance

Im 19, no, no claims, etc, so itll be pretty top notch

Insurance on a 1.3 Festa, 1200 squid



How much is insurance likely to be on a similar car... but 30 years old? (It is 30 isnt it for classic car status?) I was lookin at getting an old mini.. but the ideas came into my head now if I get a realy old mini... there will be no tax and less insurance, just wondering how much less it is.

theres no defined limit for classic cars - it depends what you've got. most minis would now count for classic insurance, as would cars like capris, oldish escorts and mr2s. anything unusual basically..

It sounds like its worth investing a grand or so into a old school car, as itll pay for itself before long !

I thought there was a limit on them? I thought it had to be 30 years old? Or does that not apply anymore? (Or is it just for the road tax ?)

i would have thought any mk1 and perhaps a mk2 would go on classic insurance. depends entirely on the insurer

Is there any actual standard that can class cars as clasic, or not ?

I mean I could get a mini from 1995, or a mini from 1975, its certainly a classic car but ones 10 years old, ones 30 years old, could you get classic car insurance on both? As there the same make model, or only on one, because its older? Or on neither? As there still in production

it simply depends on teh insurance co. there is no written rule. I have seen a mk1 golf cab on classic insurance and loadsa minis, and they made both until the mid 90s at least.. on the other hand, you'd struggle to get a mid-90s escort on classic insurance. give em a ring, cant hurt

On the subject of classic cars, how old does it have to be to qualify for Classic Car Tax? Is there even still such a thing?

I think classic cars might be exepmt from road tax.
