    Right Guys + Gals

I need YOU to help ME spend my money!!!

Right, lets get down to basics.

    • I'm 19yrs old,
    • My insurance runs out in January,
    • I'm currently insured under my Mums name on a 1.1 Metro,
    • I'm looking for a used (but not abused) car,
    • Something with a bit of poke when needed,
    • But is insurable, as I'm going on my OWN insurance next year
    • My budget is ~£3k (but obviously the cheaper the better).

    What would you buy?

I'm only after serious answers here, as I need some ideas.

Not bothered what make car, as long as its a hatchback.

I like the look of some cars, but maybe you lot can cast my mind on something different.

    Any suggestions / help appreciated!

    Regards

    Nick

Not a specialist in this subject, but the one that keeps popping into my head is the Citroen Saxo. For £3000 you aint gonna be buying the VTR or VTS so they should be relatively cheap for insurance. Only problem is that they may lack a bit of poke as you would be looking at the 1.1's. Theres also the Pug 106, but, as I say, I'm not a specialist so theres probably more-qualified opinions out there

Well, £3k should get you an alright VTR but insurance may be nasty. Go for the 1.4 106/Saxos. Little bit more poke with nice insurance.

right, for 3k, u can get a saxo VTR (1.6) and they have a lot of pull for small cars, ur insurance will be about 1300 with 1 year ncb if u choose the right insurer. IF you are VERY lucky, you might find a 106GTi but for 3k, these are few and far between, but these cars are AMAZING fun. but you;ll b paying like 1800 ins with ur 1 yr ncb.

When you say you want poke. How pokey do you want it?

Alot of smaller cars have poke. Even some 1.1's feel quite pokey. It depends if you are after a Quick car (Scary Fast) Moderatly fast or Not quite so fast but fun to drive.

Cars with stiffer suspension tend to feel nippier even if they are under powered.

Have you looked at the Suzuki GTI swift? 1.3 100bhp and quite cheap considering they don't hang about.

Aye, had the MEtro for nearly a year. They are quite pokey little things, due to the weight being none existance and tremendous torque for such a small, low powered car!

I dont really hate a particular car manufacturer.

Anything goes really, just looking for a bit more comfort and safety than the Metro can provide.
