1992 K reg on has to have a cat test, any car before does not, even if it has a cat fitted. If your car fails that test it has to have another where the tester has to use limits for the make and model and engine code, so any car not fitted with a cat from new will have the 3.5% co test.
The law seems specific yet vague (typical bureaucracy)
Google seems not to be able to produce anything definite, and the .gov.uk sites seem similarly confusing. As has been said though, make sure it really is the cat that has gone, the cat sensor may have failed. All petrol-engined class IV vehicles first used on or after 1st August 1992 (i.e., K prefix registrations onwards) will have to go to a catalyst MoT station.
Not all petrol-engined class IV vehicles first used on or after 1st August 1992 had to be fitted with a catalyst. However, the catalyst station will be able to identify whether or not a catalyst should be fitted and apply the appropriate emission tests. Vehicles fitted with catalysts and first used before 1st August 1992 are not subject to the catalyst emissions test.

When I say cat test, it means the exhaust emission test, the cat itself is not tested, or it's only tested as part of the exhaust system.
Benefits of having a 1982 car (and a friendly garage!!)

OK i'm really confused now, i'll start again..
Will this fit on my dads car? http://www.sportcats.co.uk/product_i...oducts_id=2256
I sent an email to the people who run the website, and they said it should do as it has the same engine code (ZH16).
The car is a Ford Fiesta SI, 1994 M reg.
Is there anywhere else I can check this is correct?, the guy seems pretty trustworthy, but in the last email he asked me about where I found his website because he's been trying to advertise it around (so it's not a big site obviously). He seems alright though.
Thanks
That looks to be the correct one, the fact it's a 1.6 and the year is what it'll go on, not the model.Originally Posted by XA04
