    There is kind of a hierachy (sp?) between the VAG

    Skoda = Value
    Seat = Sporty
    VW = Mid Range
    Audi = Upmarket

    And I think if you look at the models this shows through, it does mean the Audis are usually more expensive then the VW Counterparts, but imo their worth the extra.

    And you missed Bentley and Lamborgini..
    VAG have tried to create two sections, sport and sensible, with different "target priced" cars in each section...

    Sporty: Seat(budget), Audi(midrange), Lambo (the sporty daddy)
    Sensible: Skoda(budget) VW(mid) , Bentley (opulence at its best)

    ovbiously theres alot of overlap amongst the lower segments.. but its very cleverly controlled to steer people with certain wants to certain brands. eg powerful turbo car with 4 wheel drive will mean i need an audi..

    as said by XTR... get the car remapped, and itll go like a effing rocket!
    ive got the Fabia vRS with the same tdi130 engine... remap took it to 185bhp and 320lb/ft.. can hit 60 in mid 6 seconds now.. its difficult to do because it lights the tyres up in 2nd in the dry and 3rd in the wet... quattro makes sense...
    oh, also it IMPROVES fuel economy for day to day driving... a full tank will see me over 600 miles.

    It's all still 180bhp peak.

    It's not like cars in days gone by where 180bhp was a monsterous amount. Everyone looks at things like 0-60 as if it tells you everything.

    Bah, you're just jealous, because you know your 2.9L of Cologne p0wah can now be taken by a Czech supermini.

    Thanks for the info, looks like I'll get this one then.

    I know it's nothing startling, but it does have heaps of torque and still gets 45mpg even with my foot to the floor. Also I just like the interior and styling... looks good.

    My only problem is wether my gf will want to drive it with the harder suspension of the sport.

    I have heard that suspension is a weak point of the A3's, so I'm a bit concerned that with harder springs it's going to deteriate quicker too.

    Power? The cologne don't make power! Just ruddy torque.

    But if you're on about the Fabia vRS.....no, it won't take the 2.9. It's barely quicker than the 2L. Plus it's a scrabble waggon

    DAMN That little thing... That much torque... Whoa.. I bet that is fun

    That's the beauty of diesels and why they can make good little hot hatches/saloons. They're pretty darn pokey And if you don't hammer their bollocks off you'll get decent economy too

    Depends entirely on how you drive.
    If when overtaking you dont bother changing down a couple of gears, then the diesel will kick ass at overtaking.
    If you do bother to do so then the torque figures are irrelevant. The more powerfull petrols will overtake faster.

    I would disagree with that actually, My parents used to have an A2 1.4 TDi 70bhp, if you dropped that a peg and cained it, it was faster than the 1.6 FSi 110bhp.

    I always drop the A4 Cab a gear when overtaking on a road as it just gives it the extra bang needed to fly round, although on the M-Way I'm happy to let it climb the revs itself and go into the power band. Plus if you ever want to tow anything the Diesel will shine.

    I imagine that the torque steer would be a pain in the ass, my Saloon suffered from it in the wet if you didn't feather the power in (it wasn't a quattro)

    The A3 TDI Q Sport is a great car, loads of torque and grip. The best people to boost the power are MTM (www.qstuning.co.uk), they are the only people who are recognised in germany by Audi and are based next door to the factory.
    Anyone who thinks that the Audi and the VW are the same are mistaken, yes they share the same floor pan and engines but thats about it. They are built in different factorys in different towns and Audi use better quality materials hence the higher price. I wouldn't worry about rattles appearing either, Audis are bomb proof and I have seen many an Audi with the 1.9tdi engine covering over 250k without missing a beat.

    GREAT BUY

    Then the 110 BHP FSI could have been dropped another gear.
    Either that or the car with a little more than half the power was not faster. It just felt it.

    Very true. Diesels are generally much better than petrols for towing.
    That said, in my car (Xsara VTS) I have dropped 3 gears to overtake before (5th to second) However, as Moby says, shift lock can be a problem so the throttle must be blipped in those circumstances.

    Torque is all very well, but if you've got longer gearing to make up for the lack of RPM such as you do with a diesel, then the torque at the wheels is reduced. And, torque ATW is where it counts... This is why petrol screamers with short ratio boxes that have naff all torque still win out in the end.

    That's not to say they're not pokey, Doll's vRS Fabia always puts a smile on my face when I pinch a go in it because of the instant response.

    Theyre pretty good - boy racers ignore them, insurance is cheap, theyre far cheap to buy.

    I would consider one as a daily driver (Along side Primera eGT) if i couldnt afford to run the 200sx on a daily basis.
